Bloodthirsty bandits. Vicious monsters. Tons of loot. Lock, load and face the madness. Gearbox Software's acclaimed sci-fi hit comes to the Mac, complete with all four Add-On packs. Borderlands Game of the Year Edition is a unique hybrid of first person shooter and role-playing game with a super sharp visual style and a compelling four player co-op mode.
Planet Pandora is a sparsely populated wasteland where the rule of law gets rewritten daily in the smoke of the last gun battle. Civilization consists of small outposts on the fringe of human influence, in an area called the Borderlands. Pandora's one claim to fame is a mythical Vault supposedly packed with fantastic riches.
Fortune hunters, corrupt corporate mercenaries and lowlife hoodlums roam the landscape, searching under every grain of sand for the treasure. Since most intelligent life on Pandora has the occupation of Vault Hunter, society has gone to hell - making the outposts and outback areas more than just a little dangerous.

The Mac version needs to download a program called "GameRanger" to play online. Not only do you need it (Mac), but any of your Windows friends will need it as well. However, with "GameRanger" you CANNOT VOICE CHAT online! The free version of GameRanger disables the Mic and forces you to buy a Gold or Silver account!!
For online play, "GameRanger" takes over and disables a WORKING FEATURE (your mic) and begs for money. Every time you hit the mic button, you're greeted with a voice saying you need to upgrade your account. This 100% kills the game for me. GameRanger takes a WORKING feature and holds it hostage until you pay them (ransom-ware!). So, not only do you need to buy the game but if you want to talk with your friends online, it's another 19.95 US (silver) and $39.95 for gold - PER YEAR to unlock an already working feature!
This is 100% unacceptable. Had I known this before buying the game, I would have passed. Learn from my mistakes and buyer beware!
I'm playing it on a base 15" MacBook Pro (Core i5, 2.4 Ghz, 4 GB ram, GeForce GT 330M). The frame rate is a bit low if everything is turned up to High, but putting the settings on Medium smoothed things out considerably. Soon after starting the game the fans in the MacBook ramp up to ludicrous speed but there never seems to be any heat related problems.
The game itself is excellent, no matter what platform you're running it on. It's rather addictive so having it available on your Mac without having to BootCamp could be your salvation while you're away from your gaming rig.
One Caveat: This won't play at all well on a 2012 MacBook Air - even with an i7 processor. But it plays great on anything more powerful than that.
THANK GOD FOR FERAL. Thank you for bringing these incredible games to OS X and thank you for adding PS3 and PS4 controls (my PS4 controllers worked for both this and BioShock, it was great). This doesn't come with the PS4 file, however, only the PS3 file. So if you happen to have a PS4 control just contact Feral. They literally emailed me back 30 minutes later. Feral Interactive is a wonderful company with incredible customer service.
