Bassam Tarazi was born in Connecticut to immigrant parents from Palestine & Holland. He's a schooled mechanical/nuclear engineer but currently helps business leaders on not only how to finish and communicate, but how to have the mindset to do it all over again, each and every day. He's an author, entrepreneur and strategist. He or his work, has been featured in Backpacker, Forbes, Young Entrepreneur, Life Reimagined and many other outlets. He's spoken at numerous universities around the country. An explora-preneur at heart, he's also traveled to 72 countries and all 7 continents, having had such absurd experiences as getting to Everest Base Camp and the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, driving from London to Mongolia in a 42 HP car, living on an Alaskan glacier for 8 days, and being hunted by a pig-tailed macaque in the jungles of Borneo (Long stories. First off, I know Bassam, so I'm biased. I would never make up a "glowing" book review just to be a nice guy to a buddy. No way! I'd just buy the book and put it on my bookshelf with the other books I haven't read. That said, if you saw my copy of this book, you'd see it's well warn and a little beat up, as I take it with me when I'm traveling for work - or maybe I just put it in the dryer to make Bassam think I'm reading it? Either way, it's NOT on my bookshelf. That's because Bassam has created a really great read with Borders, Bandits, and Baby Wipes. Read the first paragraph or so, and if you're not interested in reading the rest of the book, I would argue your inner-adventure-self needs CPR or at least a douse of cold water. Go read this book and learn something new, laugh, and enjoy the adventure.

Bassam doesn't hold back and shares many details about his long journey in a tiny car with two others during the Mongol Rally (which I learned is not for the faint of heart!). I laughed out loud gobs of times and also cringed at the difficulties they ran into. A whole slew of different emotions came about during their journey which kept the read interesting. Further, the book kept me engaged and wanting to keep reading to find out more teeth grinding, thrilling, hilarious, and also jubilant details from the experiences Bassam faced. I definitely recommend reading this book as the journey Bassam endured is unique and very fascinating. A good switch up from other books.

Bassam’s descriptive account of his experiences on the Mongol Rally with Greg, Brooke, Donata and the other teams is a winner! It’s not just a factual account of the route with great maps of their progress from England to Mongolia, it goes to a much deeper and more personal level. It made me think about the way traveling enriches not just the individual but how we relate to one another wherever we are. My favorite passage “our massive differences and our obvious similarities blended into the smoothie that only travel can concoct. When I consciously took a sip of it, time itself seemed to stop in the experiential brain freeze while I struggled to define what the moment meant to me”. Can’t wait to hear about his next adventure!

What a wonderful adventure Bassam and his buddies were on. This is a lovely read, Bassam has a really easy style of writing, making it a joy to read. I loved the book, i laughed out loud and willed them to finish their journey. I stayed up late into the night two days in a row to finish reading it. It really made me think about my future trips - i'm only a ferry away from Europe and its certainly inspired me to do at least one road trip accross europe.
I highly recommend it and hope Bassam has a few more books in him.
