The image shows a patterned seal but mine came with a simple white rubber seal. No big deal unless you're an interior decorator.
The only problem I had with this jar is that the release handle lays (lies?) flat against the glass and I can't get my finger under it to release the catch. I took a pair of vice-grips and bent the wire slightly to move it away from the glass. It works fine now.
This video shows how a packed Fido jar will look at the very beginning of a fermentation...
Some folks have expressed a concern that these jars could explode as a result of due to the pressure that builds up during fermentation, but I honestly don't believe this is a possibility. Even if there is some defect in the jar that could result in it's breaking, the results would not be explosive, they'd just be a mess. And the jars are so well made, I don't even think about that. Minus some defect in the jar itself, the pressure will vent past the lid gasket.
Here are a couple other videos that address that possibility...
Of course, the beauty of it is that the pressure keeps oxygen from entering your ferment from outside the jar, which can allow undesirable bacteria to form and spoil your ferment or create mold or what have you. The jars also look very nice on your counter or in your pantry and could obviously be used to store any number of things.
