From the Author
But today we see the real Mars, and people from NASA to Mars One and The Mars Society plan expeditions to it's plains and mountains. Even permanent settlements.
I imagined what the first settlers might find - physical and psychological dangers as well as exploration and adventure - in the first On Mars book- Glory on Mars. At least those settlers expected more missions to arrive from Earth.
But what happens when Earthers - fickle and engulfed in their own problems -abandon missions to the inchoate colony? Will the colonists have the courage and the luck to survive? Will a second wave of colonization help? Or will Earther conflict follow them? Speculate with me as a young Martian struggles to make a life for himself and his colony.
From the Back Cover
Colonization of Mars is failing. Humans born on the hostile planet are sickly, and the search for vital resources is frustrated. Hope arrived with a Sino-African colony, but it's half a planet away. Jake, a second generation Martian, is the first to pierce the new settlers' silence. Perhaps the two colonies can survive together, if they can overcome opposition on Earth. Read this book to find out.
