What just happened?
I feel like I'm just getting out of a trance from the best freakin movie I've ever seen!!! Holy macro this author can write!! I don't even know what to tell you but she has me hooked.
I'm secretly in love with her!
Emma and her sidekick Leo, a wolf - her protector and her friend. They have had ten years surviving on their own. After the sickness and camps started, Em used every survival skill her dad taught her. Then one light knock on her cabin door changes everything. She's gone from turning her back on every horrid act happening around her, to a hero. The hero everyone needs. But at what cost? Will she put her own life in danger trying to save everyone?Anna and Jake, brother and sister surviving on their own, when tragedy hits this group. Some of it is for the best...families are reunited! But even with all the good they do and a rebellion begins...there are secrets lingering and when Em finds them out its too late...This book has easily made my top favorites! It's that good! I give this book my thumbs up!

This was the first book that I read by Tara Brown, after a good friend kept telling me how amazing her books are. So, I decided to give it a read. Am I glad I did?? YES! I have read a lot of books, with a lot of different themes within them, but Born literally blew them out of the water.

Emma has been living on her own for ten years, since the infection took hold of our world. These are not zombies, but they do resemble them in that they are no longer human, but aren't dead, technically. The government has turned the world upside down, kidnapping young girls and women to become breeders in their facilities.

Emma has not had human contact since her father died ten years ago, but now she can't seem to keep people away at all. Enter Jake and Anna, siblings, who seem to get under Emma's skin. Then there's Will, their older brother, who was supposed to be dead. Can you say mixed up??

Tara weaves this delicious story so well that I was literally sucked into her world. I stayed up all night reading just so I could find out what happened next. So, with that being said, you are seriously missing out if you don't go read this! Or any book by Tara Brown for that matter! She has a way with words that seems to be lost among most Indies today. Hope you enjoy!!

This is a zombie apocalypse book combined with a two brothers competing for the heroine romance. If you click on the "most helpful" favorable reviews for the book, and look at the books those reviewers have reviewed in the past, it looks like they very much like romance novels. Possibly this is a better romance novel than a zombie book. Romance novels aren't really my thing, so I cant contradict those folks with any confidence that romance-lovers will agree. However, I sometimes like a fantasy or sci-fi story with romance if it has a good story, so I feel I can fairly review the book for those that arent big romance novel fans. With that caveat in mind, my review of this book is very negative.

I like zombie books. Unfortunately, the premise of this one was so ridiculous that it made me laugh. The premise is that "the UN" got sick of folks ignoring global warming, so they decided to use nukes to unleash earth quakes and tidal waves to go along with a plague, but woops, their plague mutated and boom zombie problem! As if this isn't ridiculous enough, the UN then founds some cities devoted to breeding white folks that are free of any disease or defect (such as diabetes) and goes around hunting random healthy white girls to use in their "breeding farms," then kills the girls after they give birth x3 and throws them in the dump. I can suspend disbelief for zombies from cause unknown. I can suspend disbelief for zombies from evil corporations doing experiments. I can suspend disbelief for probably 100 other scenarios -- but this????

I just finished reading Born five minutes ago and my heart is still pounding wildly in my chest - the cliff hanger is making my insides twist! I certainly hope the next book is out very, very soon (a less than subtle hint to the author!).

This is a fantastic book, but it is extremely harsh and frighteningly realistic in many respects. The story is set in the near future in the aftermath of a lethal virus that killed billions of people or worse yet, did not kill them but left them with only the most basic of instincts - to kill and consume. The original virus mutated and that was not a part of "their" plan. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely not a book about "zombies" - they are just one of the many dangers that exist in this new world. There are breeder camps where women are taken against their will by hunters and trackers who don't seem to have a shred of humanity left in them and we as readers are made well aware of that. This story is not for the faint of heart.

Emma has been alone since she was 9 years old and her only companion is a timber wolf named Leo. Now, 19 she thinks she is a coward but she has learned how to survive, how to hunt and how to kill. She has witnessed horrific acts perpetrated by men who prey on the weak, especially young women and take what they want in all respects. She has a certain naivety about life having had no social interaction with other people in a decade so when Anna comes to her door for help, she almost turns her away and/or kills her. But Anna is determined to get help for her injured brother and suddenly Emma's world is turned upside down and inside out. Jake, Anna and Emma go through hell together but when they are separated and Anna is captured and taken to a breeder camp, Emma puts her life on the line to get her back.

Separate from my review: This book has rape in it. It's not detailed, but it is implied and attempted a lot. I think it could be traumatic to someone who has experienced violence like that.

The books starts off good and with an interesting concept, but quickly becomes ridiculous at about the 30% mark.

A girl who has spent 10 years surviving by avoiding people at all costs suddenly starts making out with a boy because he asks her to? Stupid.

Then, later while lying in the field (for 10 minutes) trying to hide from zombies, she starts making out with another guy? More stupid.

Then, after making it to a camp after walking for a day and running away from zombies, she decides to go stomping off into the woods in a huff without resting, eating or taking any food with her simply because kissed boy #2 had a maybe girlfriend and the two kissed boys weren't acknowledging her enough? Totally stupid.

I started skimming after that point and the plot just kept getting more ridiculous. It was awful.
