Mediocre film, score manipulated by film team

Wow those characters were super freaking annoying, as much as I couldn't stand the lead male, the lead female was even worse....the dialogue she would mutter at times was so odd in the context of situation at hand. Also the ending doesn't make sense. Wasn't the worst movie I've seen on Prime but it was far from even being "okay." I was going to give the film r 3 stars but got really pissed off when I was going through the reviews here and noticed these bizarre reviews dissecting and analyzing the film like they were talking about Citizen Kane or something and giving the film 5 stars. Here's a tip, if you're involved with a film and you're trying to pump up the film's Amazon rating maybe keep it simple and not so obvious that you have a vested interest, Amazon really needs to fix that.

Okay, I watched it all....
Verified purchase
I watched it all, well except for the boring parts. It was better than most horror movies, but it wasn't really scary. But hey, I watched, The Exorcist, when I was 16 back in 1976, then went out on the lake around midnight frog gigging afterward.

1 star: couldn't watch more than 15 minutes. Unwatchable!
2 star: jumped my way to the end for the ending. Unwatchable, but interested in how this turd ended.
3 star: watched it all, but not happy about it. Nothing better to do.
4 star: I watched it, liked it well enough. Would never watch it again.
5 star: Great moving picture show! I'll watch it again, and maybe again in a few years.

Characters are irritating. immature and selfish.
Verified purchase
This had promise but I had to turn it off out of sheer irritation with the immature irresponsible characters. They act like a group of ten year olds. And don't even get me started on the title of this. "Bornless?" Really? The acting wasn't real bad, I've seen a lot worse. In my opinion they were given a horrible script and worse directing. If you can get past that, then it's an ok story. The husband acts like he wants to help with the handicapped brother but then behaves like he's the worst inconvenience and he clearly resents him. His friend or brother, I missed which one, is just as bad and although the wife appears to be responsible at first, the others are able to lure her into completely forgetting about the handicapped kid. They're all selfish, that's for sure. I didn't get to the end so I can't speak of that.

Better than I expected

The Bornless Ones is a horror flick that can easily remind viewers of The Evil Dead. It's cast well even though the characters aren't particularly likable except for the one guy that's a quadriplegic. But the context of the story being told calls for really suspect, really selfish characters. The intro scene is interesting but I wish there was more back story to it. In order for the meat of the film to work, the demonic possessions have to sell themselves and in that regard, The Bornless Ones does a great job. The possessions were so entertaining to me that it made me wish more characters were involved just to see how their dirty little secrets would be exploited via demonic possession. I especially wanted to see more of the baby killer because she was funny and really exotic in a dirty, Satan's tool kinda way.

The negatives of the film are that it's pretty much a paint-by-numbers horror tale. You already know who's going to survive, you already know who's going to live after the first 20 minutes. The demonic figures in the forest are totally under used to the point of being unnecessary. The demons themselves are mentioned but never seen and there were 7 or them apparently. Good luck telling who was possessing who because the film never specifies or explains the differences between the demons and why these 7 are relevant. The reaction to some of the injuries were totally unrealistic. Dude gets stabbed in the face but it apparently stopped hurting after 3 minutes. Same guy gets stabbed in the eye, but that's okay after taking a swig of hooch and letting a few minutes pass. He partially stabbed himself in the heart...no biggie. The lead gets stabbed in the stomach. No Problem. She was all good after 2 minutes. In the intro apparently once a demon inhabits the body the only way to kill it is to obviously, kill the host body. But for some odd reason, the quadriplegic was only partially possessed but was healed and was allowed to walk free of the house at the end free of any demon possession. Lame. Why didn't he kill or try to kill his sister under demon possession when the intro shows how the woman's daughter was completely taken over? Cute kid if you don't mind the manic tendencies and blood lust.

Remember: Horror films are about stupid people doing really stupid things. The ending demonstrates this perfectly which is why the lead got what she got.

3*, The Bornless Ones is entertaining enough to give it a go but it's not better than the source material that inspired it.

How to make a B horror movie good
Verified purchase
To start off with I'm a huge horror fan. 99% of it is crap so it's like digging for diamonds. I've seen well over 1,000 horror movies in my life. This low budget B movie gets a 4-star which is highly unusual. The writers and director figured out a formula to make a solid two-star movie into a 4. Never been done so far in my view. Acting is bad, plot is predictable but somewhat novel, plays on the kids stop at the gas station and run into the local rednecks and manages to mix in demonology and the occult with the slasher angle too. But most brilliantly, they paired this down to about 1hr 16mns of viewing time. This film won't get to the Oscars, but I find a tad of brilliance in the fact they hit all the tropes, kept me interested, but ahhhh...the true brilliance was fitting all into 76 minutes. I'd like to talk to the editors and the director and writers and buy them a beer.

It isn't too bad from a story point of view
Verified purchase
Oh boy!!!!
This movie right here!

It isn't too bad from a story point of view. That's an ok plot!
It is badly directed tho, and the acting doesn't help much.
Sure, it's one of those B horror movies and I never expected much out of it, but something's were just too much! Almost like the film production didn't give a darn to make something better.

For example!
Watch out for some mild spoilers.

How can someone push a wheelchair (with a gown person on it) up and down those front steps in the house?
They do it twice. In the beginning and in the end.
It did felt like a "whatever! It's a bad movie anyways! Who cares if makes no sense!"
Who in their sane mind would allow a strange doctor to take a family member without their presence, to wherever they wanted to take the boy? Realistically speaking, a family member would have to go with them, if not to sign papers and stuff. Can't bring a person into an institution to be examined without following proper procedures.
Again, another whatever moment, who cares bad movie anyways.

Also the injuries. Who would ever get stabbed andnthe. Walk and run around as if they weren't even hurt?!
The heroine of the movie of course.
Even her clothes didn't have much blood where she was stabbed. There was more blood on her hair than where she was stabbed.

Don't get me wrong.
I love bad movies.
Haha especially horror ones. I think they are more fun than serious good horror movies (those scare the crap out of me)
But this one just felt too lazy, even to be bad!

No go

No go movie about a pair of couples who go out to the boondocks to set up house in the newly purchased home that one of the couples is moving into. They bring along the severely handicapped brother of the Blond Girl. Soon as they get there spookiness ensues, and it's all aimed at the brother, who can't walk, talk or take care of himself. Until that house. All of a sudden he can do things. But a reversal is impossible. Only the blind love of his sister would disregard that.

Really boring Evil Dead clone.
Verified purchase
Go watch the original Evil Dead. Seen that? Watch the remake, Evil Dead 2. Seen that? Watch Army of Darkness. Seen that? Watch the recent remake of Evil dead. Seen that? Well, nothing is going to surprise you, or even entertain you, in Bornless Ones. The title doesn’t make sense and neither does the movie. I suppose if you are desperate, drunk, or sleep deprived, since this is free it may fit the bill, but otherwise...find something else.
