i used this sander on the #2 setting for less than 2 hours over the span of a couple of months. it worked great at first & i was telling everyone i should have "upgraded" to Bosch a lot sooner. a week ago it started vibrating like crazy & making a loud unfamiliar noise. i took the attachment off that holds the sanding pad to change attachments thinking this would remedy the problem & the ball bearings fell out in my hand & onto the floor. i called Bosch the following Monday & customer service told me, since i have had it for 14 months instead of less than 12 months, it was not covered under warranty. i tried to explain that it sat unused & new in the box for the first 6 months i had purchased it & i had only used it for a total run time of less than 2 hours but the customer service representative was unsympathetic & kept asking(at least 5 times), "have you had the sander for more than 12 months? well it's not covered under our warranty." his only advice was to fill out a repair work order & ship it back to Bosch for repairs(Bosch would pay for return shipping but i'd have to pay for repairs). i have spent over $1200 on Bosch tools over the past 2 years & apparently all of them are warrantied for 12 months regardless of the amount of use. save yourself LOTS of money, time & frustration & buy a different brand of sander. we've had a Black & Decker Mouse that has lasted several years & cost only a fraction of what i paid for the Bosch. in the future, i will think twice before purchasing anything made by Bosch. i was under the assumption i was paying for quality. i hope this particular Bosch sander was just a lemon & all of the other Bosch tools i have purchased last a lot longer. i gave this sander a one-star rating because of the short life span of the product & the smart-allic customer service
UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE--the people at bosch honored my warranty even though it was a couple months out of date. i think it is very cool they stood behind their product. they paid for shipping, repaired the sander, & sent it back without costing me a dime. this whole process probably took less than 2 weeks. very cool if you use & need your tools like i do. thank you BOSCH. the first guy i spoke with regarding this issue was a jerk & if you have a problem, i hope you do not have the displeasure of speaking with him. hope this helps--Jonathan
