*If you have a smaller frame/hand, these won't get away from you...good if you are at the top of a ladder juggling several things at once.
*Easy to change bits with one hand...collet.
*They fit into tight spots and a smaller sized tool belt with the short nose and compact size.
*The compact size makes it easier to hit and stay on your target.
*Very cool to have one set up for drilling and the other for driving so you don't have to switch bits.
*They won't tire out your hand/arm...sturdy and solid but not too heavy.
*Very smooth acceleration so you won't accidentally strip or bore out a screw or be startled when it finally takes off.
*Ladies should never, never buy tools that come in pretty colors. Buy the best tool you can handle. You need tools that do the work for you to compensate for a smaller frame and (probably) less strength than a guy. Even if you only hang towel rods and assemble flat pack furniture...
Additionally, anyone who is not a pro should read up on drill bits. The driver takes a hex shank bit. I have a drawer full of drill bits I have collected over the years and needed to purchase the proper bits for this drill/driver. I'm not the best person to go into a lengthy discussion here but either read up online or go to the hardware store to ask some questions.
All that said, I am very happy with this Bosch set.
The first ones lasted about 4 years but they failed because of me. The impact got knocked off a ladder and feel 8' to the floor and it would not rotate any longer just impact. The drill got knocked off some duct work in the ceiling and fell 15' to the floor.... very bad week. They both worked great until they fell.
Both old batteries I still use with the new drill/impact and work as well as the day I bought the first drills.
My only complaint is the drill and impact feel slightly under powered. A lot of my co-workers use Milwaukee 12 volt drills and they feel like they have a little more power. If I didn't already have 4 batteries before I might have looked into switching to Milwaukee instead. I not bad mouthing, the Bosch drills are smaller then Milwaukee and fit into your pocket better plus they have worked great for years until I broke them.
After looking at this closely, it appears the chuck of the drill driver was designed to hold a shorter hex shank where it would grip about 9 mm of a one-inch screwdriver. Careful, do not use the one-inch bits in the impact driver because it is likely they will get stuck.
If you look at the 2nd picture, the shorter screw driver bit is about one inch long, and the shank that the drill driver could grip is about 9 mm. I have the impression the shank of the drill driver was designed to work with the shorter 9 mm shank. Also in the 2nd picture, you can see the standard hex shank with the power groove. Overall, the hex part of the shank is longer. This type of shank will work in both the drill driver and the impact driver. The longer shank with the power groove is what you should always be using in the impact driver. If you try to use the one-inch bits in the impact driver, it is likely it will get stuck and you may have difficulty getting it out of the chuck of the impact driver.
I am thinking of taking a set of drills with the longer shank with the power groove and cutting them down so that they are about 9 mm to 14 mm long. I may add a little notch. Then these may work in the drill driver that comes in this combo kit.
I included a video showing the wobble of a hex drill bit with the power groove in the drill driver that comes with this kit.
I recommend purchasing a different kit that includes a drill driver with a chuck that will accept rounded drills... https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GT0IWK?pf_rd_r=KMKVW9XZV94W0P5ZD7DQ&pf_rd_p=edaba0ee-c2fe-4124-9f5d-b31d6b1bfbee
I've been mainly using the drill tool with a fine wire wheel brush to clean most contact surfaces on the engine or inside the rim's bead wall before put on new tires. It works flawlessly in removing all the crap that's stuck onto the walls.
The battery lasts quite awhile. I can use one tool almost past an entire day at work before having to switch to the secondary battery.
Two years and counting. These tools still perform like a champ, too bad the exterior looks like hell after all the crap I put these little things through. The batteries are still working great too.
Welp, the batteries that came with the kit are starting to wear out and after a full charge they don't last more than 2 days before need to recharge again. Overall, after around 4 years of usage the driver and drill are still working, but now I need to replace the batteries.
FYI, if you need new batteries. Get the model 415 version as they are the updated versions of the 413-414 batteries. The newer 415 batteries not have an increased amp rating.
