Gone are the days when an appliance might last a generation. At some point in the last two decades, price competition has driven build quality to unacceptable levels. So we buy "respectable" brands, like Bosch, right? Wrong!

I bought this and installed it in late summer 2011. By December 2012 it was non-functional. Well, we still use it as a clock, but it won't ever heat food again. I called a local appliance repair company, who promptly sent two guys out to look it over. They suggested that the magnetron had failed. Since it was so soon out of warranty, the repair guys suggested that I see if I could get the part (magnetrons can be very expensive) from Bosch. I called Bosch. The support person I got was rude, and even obstructionist (claiming not receiving proof of purchase, for example, or giving me a non-functional email address for communication). After 8-10 back and forth wrangling interactions with support people, I demanded a supervisor. I was told one would contact me within 48 hours. I was never called. In summary, support was terrible! In the end they sent me a magnetron with a 10% discount. Repair guys came back, and did the installation, and lo, the microwave still didn't work. The repair guys suggested that part was bad. After my experiences, I would not be surprised to learn that I was sent a bad part on purpose.

I have had it. This oven will be on the curb at the next trash day. I will never buy a Bosch product again. I expect that today's crap electronic devices will fail fairly frequently; I expect a premium brand, like Bosch, to stand behind the spirit of a product warranty. They don't.

I've had great experience with Bosch appliances (at least in the short term...all of my appliances are less than 5 years old). I purchased this microwave with a Bosch range (which I love). I'm very disappointed with the door quality. We've had it replaced, because the inner layer of the door was delaminated in spots when we received it. The new door still has one area of delamination, and it is very "tinny" when it closes. (That's an understatement...) My biggest "gripe" is that I can't use the timer when I cook with the microwave...definitely a hassle, especially if I'm using the oven and microwave together. So far, the cooking seems to be fine, but overall, this microwave is a disappointment...I don't feel it's worthy of the Bosch name.

Unfortunately there's no zero star rating, and one undeserved star it is. We installed this unit in 2012 to replace a Whirlpool that had died after 15 years (it was about time, I guess). The first problem we detected is that this thing cannot keep time. It seems that it was designed for a 50Hz mains and the engineers did a poor job adjusting the software for a 60Hz system, so the clock was always ahead after a fer days (several minutes ahead), luckily all the other appliances have clocks too so we learned to live with that quirk. Then it developed a problem (conveniently out of warranty) where the internal fan would not shut off after warming up a meal. It was hard to know if the heat was still going on or not, so we kept the door open for a few minutes and that was it. I started shopping for another unit to replace this sorry excuse of an appliance (will be another brand, probably Whirlpool again). Finally, it died today after roughly 2 and half years of service, too soon for the price. Seriously, I can only imagine management at this company toasting to their fat bonuses while they laugh at the consumers for overpaying for the junk the put out in the market.

We bought this microwave for a new kitchen two months ago. It started out simply shutting down in the middle of cooking, then it died altogether. We called the Bosch repair service over a month ago and still do not have a functioning unit after two service calls. The unit is on the dining room floor so we can trip on it. We paid extra for Bosch and after two month have yet to have a functioning microwave. Bosch does not seem troubled at all by this and is still trying to fix what is clearly a defective unit, saying the next available date for the third service call on a brand new unit is two weeks away. Never again.

Like all microvaves, our Bosch has a perforated metal screen on the door to reduce microwave energy from escaping through the glass door.
This screen should be covered by a think plastic sheet to prevent food spatters from being trapped between the screen and glass. (The door cannot be disassembled for cleaning). The Owners manual clearly shows a "Heat/Vapor Barrier Film" on the door, but our microwave did not come with it, and two Bosch customer service reps denied that this part existed. Instead, they blamed us for allowing our food to spatter on the inside of the door. Poor product design, poor customer service. Keep shopping--There are many good microwaves out there.

So my microwave has worked since early 2013. But it shuts off randomly. I always have to go back to the circuit breaker to turn it back on because of this microwave. House was brand new when I installed it and still, I had electricians come and check on it. I will be putting a new microwave in it's spot soon so I can come back and really know for certain that it is the microwave and not the breaker. The electricians did say everything was ok with the circuit breaker. Usually i put a button to start the microwave and it shuts the breaker off. Sometimes its in the middle of cooking. and I could go weeks with not one issue. And sometimes it could happen a few times in a week. It is so unpredictiable. I even had Bosch repairmen come and check it out. They could not find anything to be causing this issue but replaced something to give it a try. I spent 100 bucks on repairs and it still does the same thing. Going to invest in a new convection microwave so at least I am upgrading to something better to replace a nice Bosch appliance. It is a shame because all my other appliances are working well and they are Bosch as well.
