The JS572EB is a very nice jigsaw (and it better be considering the prce!). It produces clean cuts and has enough power to chomp through hardest materials. That said, I believe that Bosch needs to start working on an improved model ASAP.

1) It is smooth enough at lower speeds, but on high speed the vibration is still pervasive as is the noise.

2) The anti-splinter insert will become loose after you put it in and take it out only a few times. It will not work with the non-marring cover. The anti-splinter insert has a double-duty to aid with fine adjustment of the footplate squareness to the blade. Once it becomes loose, it is useless for that purpose (more on that below).

3) The US market jigsaw has a cast aluminum foot plate (Europeans get magnesium). This aluminum is quite soft - as a result it will get a new scratch around the spherical part each time you change the angle for bevel cutting.

4) The fine 90 degrees square adjustment is hard to access and is fiddly. It relies on an eccentric bolt to press against the side of a cutout in the footplate. The bolt is held from spinning freely by nothing else but some thread-lock. After a couple of adjustments the bolt will either start spinning freely and/or it will dig into the cutout - both effectively negating its purpose. I can't overstate this: considering that the majority of cuts made are square - this whole mechanism must be changed to allow for positive, fiddle-free 90 degrees fine-tuning.

5) To change the angle for bevel cutting, one needs to push a lever, slide the foot, change the angle and lock the lever back. Evidently this is designed to speed up the angle changes. In my opinion this is a gimmick and a prime example of a needless over-engineering.

Having owned a older barrel type bosch jig in the past, I felt comfortable making this purchase, sadly I prefer the older Bosch 1584AVS, which has FAR LESS vibration and noise than this one does, I'm a cabinet maker by trade who needs to make precision cuts, which is more than hard to do with heavy vibration, also the blade is set further back which makes it more difficult to see the blade during cutting, you almost have to stick your head in front of the saw to see it .. What I DO like about this this saw is the quick blade release and led lights, however the lights remain ON at all times when the saw is plugged in, you would think it would turn on with the switch but it doesn't .. Very poor quality saw for the money, you can spend $100 more and move up to a Festool barrel jig saw, which is what I will mostly likely do..

I love bosch tools. I have a dedicated 1587 jig saw with a Collins coping foot and could not be happier. The 1587 requires the use of an allen wrench to change the angle of the base- not really a big deal for the times I needed to do it.

The JS572EBL has a quick-lock/release to change the angle of the base. As another reader commented- the adjustment for getting the blade perpendicular to the base is difficult at best. I have had numerous problems getting it to stay perpendicular.

In my opinion, this alone makes the saw not worth the money. If I could return it I would.

I recently received this saw, Bosch Model JS572EBL Barrel grip jigsaw, as a replacement for an earlier model which I returned because it was defective. Although I have used it for only a short time, I have found it to be powerful, quiet, smooth and vibration free. The controls are well placed but the cutting line is a little difficult for me to see. Because this is my first experience with a barrel grip saw I am sure that, with a little practice, I will be able to adjust to this difference. It is easy to control and the barrel is just the right size for my medium sized hands. I have noticed, however, that it does get a little warm with use although not uncomfortably so.

This saw just keeps getting better. The more I use it, the more I like it.

So I've been using this saw cutting prime 2X lumber for a year or so now and decided to write my experiences with it. First off I'm extremely happy to have it as it cuts very well (the guides on mine keep the blade very square to the base). It also has wonderful power and is easy to control. It has held up very well with the fairly heavy use I've put it through. I've also dropped it a couple times off the workbench since I always have it hooked up to the shop vac and I sometimes walk into the hose since I'm clumsy but you could never tell since it takes the drop from about waist high onto cement with no problems at all. When you set the switch to less aggressive cut it is very precise and easy to control. When you set it to an aggressive cut it really chews through wood like a boss. Also the dust control attachment is nice (it doesn't really gather all the big saw dust on top of the board but it does really seem to gather all or most of the more dangerous fine dust that I really worry about).
Now for my big complaint and a couple little nitpicky ones. The little ones are that the dust shield you need to use to improve the dust collection gets hard to see through very quickly. The dust really sticks to it. Using the built in light really helps but its a complaint worth mentioning for you guys that use the dust collection with your saw. Also, the splinter guard is kinda cheesy and will need to be replaced often. Not just since splinter guards are designed to be wearable but the little tabs that hold them into place tend to break off. Those are just nit picking complaints to be honest. By far my biggest complaint is from day one mine has run very very hot. Its designed so your hand sits very naturally in the front of the barrel where it curves upward.
