Bosch's PS31-2A 12-volt max drill/driver has a compact, lightweight design for easy handling overhead and in tight spaces, allowing users to tackle professional jobs with ease. Offering high torque and the convenience of two speed settings, this tool is powerful and user-friendly for fast, efficient drilling and driving. This drill/driver combines speed, power, and performance, making it ideal for professionals and do-it-yourselfers. The drill/driver's build consists of a 7-inch head length and 2-pound body. This streamlined design makes the drill small enough to fit into tight areas, and well-suited for continuous overhead work. This drill/driver also features a 3/8-inch single sleeve chuck, allowing the tool to be ideal for a variety of applications. It also has a variable speed trigger so that speed regulation will always be perfect. With this small drill/driver you can work anywhere, anytime. An integrated LED illuminates dark corners and low-light areas so your visibility is never compromised. In addition to providing illumination, this drill driver is also trademarked with Bosch's Electronic Cell Protection (ECP), which extends the run time and life of the tool. The fuel gauge is conveniently located on the side of the tool for easy battery management. Bosch has invented a drill/driver that is 22-percent more compact, has 25-percent more torque, and can perform at speeds up to 15-percent faster than ever before.

The L-BOXX system makes it easy to have screws and other hardware for quick access in my maintenance golf cart. The L-BOXX that the drill comes in does have plenty of extra room even with the charger, battery and drill in there. However, I keep my charger in the shop and the drill is on me always, so I was left with an empty box with no organizing boxes in it. I am puzzled as to what to put in there because when you lock the two boxes together you have to detach them in order to open the bottom box. So whatever you put in there needs to be something you don't want to have access to often. I planned on being in and out of these boxes constantly so when I saw that I knew the bottom box would hardly ever get used.
Quality drill in a compact size.
Battery level display
LED light on the front that will turn on even if the drill is in the lock position
Quick charge time
Great, sturdy cases. Really, really fantastic. I turned the case upside-down a few times and everything stayed in it's place.
Multiple handle locations to carry both cases locked together or separate.
Can't access bottom case when two are locked together without detaching.
Slight, yet noticeable, delay to full-speed drilling.
Having said that, this is my new go to driver. It has a nice comfortable grip and is sized well for smaller hands. Compared to my Hitachi 18V this one is really light weight which makes it much less tiring to use. Comparing the weight of an 18v to a 12v driver is unfair but it's part of my justification for have two drill/drivers. Sometimes, you need the additional power from an 18v driver but most of the time I can get away with using the much lighter Bosch 12v driver.
I've used it to drive about 40 or so 2" wood screws through 5/8 plywood board without problem. The LED battery meter showed that it still had plenty of charge. It has also been used to build a wood shed. The lighter weight is really nice when you have to put in lots of screws overhead. It has an small white LED light that comes on when the trigger is actuated which throws a decent amount of light and could be handy if used in a light challenged location.
The storage boxes are great. Nice and sturdy with good build quality. The one for the drill has a molded plastic insert with spaces for the drill, charger and battery. The second case is really handy for storing hardware parts like screws, nuts, bolts, etc.
Overall, this bundle was a fantastic value and probably one of the better purchases I've made.
The L-Boxx situation is less impressive. The drill comes in a case with 50/50 split inserts, only half needed for the drill kit. The insert for the other half gobbles up space with a very specific mold that's not likely to be much use, and whether it's in or out there's no padding in the lid top like the other L-Boxx, so you won't want anything with too much play bouncing around in there. That useless insert's unfortunately all that keeps the drill insert from sliding around.
I had planned to combine the drill storage half with half the organizing inserts from the extra box (the 1A), but this doesn't work by design- the inserts of the 1A are based on 1/7 width columns.
When trying to make that plan work, I added 3 columns' worth of storage organizers, the half-insert for the drill, and wasted the remaining space with filler between them to remove play. But while loading these it was too often a case of square peg and round hole; these compartment sizes didn't prove very good for storing drill bits, were all too small to handle my bits in their little case, so forced me to return to my original storage solutions.
The L-Boxx's design isn't flexible enough to warrant their hefty price tag when bought on their own, and I wouldn't buy this drill on the strength of them. Those grey removeable tabs on the side channels should not be the only ones of their kind; the 1A can't handle anything wider than 2 columns, the inserts are small and you can't really remove any without destabilizing the whole thing.
I basically ended up with the 1A full of screws, washers, nuts & bolts, not a bad thing. My drill goes with the tools and the charger/spare battery get to occupy a chronically half-empty box.
