This is an excellent dishwasher, HOWEVER... as others have noted, the "On/Off" and "Start" button lettering is wearing off after less than a year, even though we are careful how we clean and touch them. The cycle button lettering hasn't worn yet but it seems to be applied the same way, so it could.
I fixed the problem by applying clear plastic film over the entire control panel, using "Xpel Doorsill Guard" (sold on Amazon). This is a transparent but tough film made to protect vehicle door sills, so it should last forever on the dishwasher. It's almost invisible and the buttons work fine with it on.
It's very easy to apply using the package's instructions. You will need to cut the 6 foot long strip to the right length, and cut about 1/4" from the 2.75" width for a good fit. The whole thing took me all of ten minutes. The film can be removed if you should want to.
If I were buying a new one, I'd put this on right away.
I am single have no children which means this unit may get used twice a month. Other than this issue I think the dishwasher is a great unit, cleans very well, quiet, and has excellent features.
Bosch considers this cosmetic, the customer service representative made it sound as if she was doing me a favor by covering the part and leaving me to pay the service center to come and install the part.
Bosch unfortunately this is my first and last unit I will purchase or recommend due to the lack of quality and truly standing behind poor quality straight from the factory.
I am updating my review. After spending sometime on the phone with Bosch customer support they decided they would cover the parts and labor to replace the control panel trim bezel, something I think should have been done on my first phone call not my 3rd or 4th. The new trim bezel is installed so let us see how long the lettering will last.
I've decided on Bosch and picked this model because it looked good, had a third tray and I got a good deal on it.
I actually like pretty much everything about it. Starting with the installation...I like that they moved the connection points (water and electrical) outside the dishwasher cavity. They even provided an electrical box to be installed under the sink, so when something goes wrong you don't need to pull the dishwasher and I think it is also safer (no exposed wired under the unit).
The dishwasher runs very quietly. There might be some quieter models, but at this point it is down to "mine is quieter than yours" type of bragging thing. At no point anybody would be bothered by the noise (most of the time there is no noise at all), and in few moments in the cycle where you can hear it (barely)it will not interfere with anything you are doing. (including sleep).
Most importantly it cleans the dishes perfectly. Every single thing I put in the dishwasher (including some bowls with dried food stuck to it) came out super clean. Every single one. I don't think there is any improvement in this area than can be made.
There are really no minuses...maybe the drying is not 100% perfect on the plastic dishes (but I am not sure if there is a dishwasher that can do it). The racks could be made little more sturdy and the door seems to be little fragile (I prefer more heavy feel). That's all I can think of.
If you are looking for a dishwasher, spend little extra (if you can) for this or similar model. Any negative reviews about it must be ether due to bad installation, or unreasonable expectations (yes the dishwasher makes some sound sometimes, it is not perfectly silent).
