I also have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer (model # K45SS, 250W), which I've had for 35 years and is still going strong. However, my ancient Oster Blender was very much past it's prime. So I decided to try to find a Food Processor and Blender combo unit instead of taking up my counter space with 2 separate appliances.
After doing a LOT of research trying to find a Food Processor and Blender combo that was rated to last for years, I came across the Bosch Universal Mixer @ 800 W. This 'mixer' has been made since 1952 and has been rated very high for years. In fact, many people have owned theirs for 20 + years.
But I wanted a Food Processor and Blender, not a mixer. I happened upon this universal mixer because of its quality AND it came with attachments. You guessed it... a Food Processor and a Blender, plus many other attachments. Very much like my Kitchen Aid yet different. One main difference is the weight, Kitchen Aid @ 35#’s and the Bosch @ 12#. The Kitchen Aid is a bit clumsy in that when adding ingredients you often times fight the mixing hooks. The Bosch’s motor is on the bottom so there are no obstructions when adding ingredients as the dough hook is in the bowl.
I looked at four categories to make my decision; reliability, functionality, customer service, and cost. The Bosch won in all categories except the cost. They are pricey, but the old adage ..... you get what you pay for, played in my mind. I've only had my Bosch Universal Mixer for a couple of weeks, but I have tested out the mixer for making bread, the Blender, and today the Food Processor. All 3 passed with flying colors.
I was worried about the 5 cups capacity of the Food Processor, as mine old one 11 cups. I LOVE to cook and thought this would certainly be restrictive. For the recipe I made today I minced up carrots, shallots, garlic, and later made a liver pate. It was WONDERFUL! In fact, because the high speed drive where the Food Processor and Blender attached is so powerful you really need to watch your ingredients so that you don't over process them. FAST!
The Food Processor comes with the 'S' blade for mincing/processing items along with the slicing/shredding discs. I haven't tried the slicing/shredding discs yet, but I'm certain they'll work as good as the other items.
The Blender was AMAZING too. Even my husband was surprised at the power. It chopped up ice into snow, literally! Now the husband is eyeing it up for margaritas. Ha, ha.
This Universal Mixer/Food Processor/Blender has been everything I hoped for so far. I plan on purchasing the Meat Grinder, Pasta Extruders, and the larger slicer/shredder, which fits onto where the mixing bowl attaches. This larger slicer/shedder is for BIG batches of cabbage etc.
I was disappointed when the Food Processor arrived and noticed while unpacking it that the food pusher was already cracked. I just left it in the box and contacted "Bosch Mixers" through Amazon's site. They replied to me the very same day and arranged to have a brand new Food Processor sent out! Plus, they gave me a Fed Ex label with FREE shipping back for the damaged unit. I couldn't have been happier. The NEW 2nd unit arrived within a few days and everything was in perfect order.
I have to say that Bosch Mixers has been excellent to work with and I would order from them again. In fact, when the Universal Mixer came I thought that it should have come with the extended dough hook and when I contacted them they were nice enough to send me the dough hook. That is customer service at its best!
The mixer base itself is fantastic. The design hasn't changed since ancient days, which is probably the only reason it's still good.
I have owned two Bosch dishwashers, one was OK, the other was a very expensive sanitizer that would not remove even the tiniest speck of food from any dish. I've also owned a Bosch washer and dryer set, that were not any better than machines half the price. Whatever designers Bosch had way back in the day, they were not paid enough. And their current set should be fired.
End of rant. Bye bye Bosch.
Updated after some use: I downgraded my review after having some time to use it. This thing is pretty useless and I ended up buying a real food processor instead. Hummus came out lumpy and pesto had bit basil leaf bits in it. Added to this is the hassle of setting this up and getting it to finally lock and run. I regret buying this.

Its efficiency can be scary.
But does the job in a very satisfying way.
Will never want a processor that does not come up to the standards of this well designed super-gadget.
