Wireless connectivity to the soundbar was quick and very easy. It stays connected with no dropout.
Setup took several tries. Out of the box the acoustimass was putting out too much vibration without any good tones. After running the Bose Adaptiq setup the bass was better but still too much thumping without quality tones. I ended up running the Adaptiq setup using positions closer to the acoustimass than my actual sitting area. This helped to bring the vibration down to a smoother and better sounding level. The bass actually sounded good versus just being thumpy.
My only big complaint is that Bose only allows for five 'notches' on the bass volume control. Sometimes I want to adjust the bass by what-would-be a half notch. I don't know why they can't allow the user better control.
I think the soundbar by itself works fine for most television. I mainly wanted to add some extra punch when watching certain shows/movies and it works well. You are never going to get a full movie theater immersive sound with a soundbar setup, but this helps add some punch for home viewing with a very compact setup. The nearly invisible surrounds don't add much in my opinion--Bose needed to design a wider and more powerful speaker. Buy the surrounds only if you feel compelled to own the entire set but be warned it doesn't have any wow factor like the subwoofer.
The build of the subwoofer is good. The glass top is a great design element. The body itself is average. In photos the white version looks more glossy than it is in person. Also based on the photos online I thought it would be metal or a polished hard plastic. But it appears more matte finish with a subtle texture to the plastic body.
Overall I feel this was well worth the purchase. It adds the extra low-end boost I was looking to add in a compact format.
I moved into a new house and wanted to simplify my home theatre system from the large cumbersome space hog system of receiver, 5 speakers and subwoofer. The Bose Soundtouch 300 and wireless bass module minimalist and architecturally aesthetic design look great, fit perfectly into my decor and super easily integrates with my Samsung 8000 TV. It's like sitting in a movie theatre but we actually listen to music with it more than TV! The app is great for anywhere wifi control and it integrates with Amazon music which is our main source of tunes. Love the set up.
BTW, I read lots of reviews where people had issues using HDMI ARC connection from a TV to the soundbar. Maybe these were older and since resolved in firmware updates prior to my purchase, but I have seen none of these issues. It works flawlessly!! I never have to touch the Bose remote since the Samsung remote controls the Bose in conjunction with TV and honestly is an incredible remote design. For music, I never touch a remote. Just use the app on multiple devices. Found an old iphone sitting around gathering dust. Loaded the app and now its our dedicated music controller but can still pull out any of our phones, ipads, etc. and use that app. Whatever is most convenient at the moment. Couldn't be happier!!
Also, we looked hard at Sonos which I really wanted with its great sound and whole system control. After checking out both, decided to go with Bose. Both are extremely expensive (planning on having it a LONG time so it better hold up) but decided to take the plunge. Fanatical audiophiles may discount the lack of finite control, range, etc. etc. etc. Hey, my ears aren't that good and never were. If that turns you on, get your knobs and dials and piles of equipment and speakers and knock yourself out. Me, I look forward to more of these incredible Soundtouch speakers throughout the house and property!!
Why 4 out of 5? Simple, the price. A piece of my soul died when I clicked the "submit order" button on this thing. I'm so ashamed of the price, that I refuse to tell my friends who ask me how much it cost (and I refuse to share the model). Bose, you make good stuff, but wow guys. Tone down your profit margins JUST A LITTLE, and you might gain an even larger market share.
