Enhance your personal listening experience.Hear the Difference
With Bose technology you don't have to compromise sound quality when listening through headphones. These around-ear headphones feature TriPort acoustic headphone structure--available only from Bose--to provide full-range sound from lightweight earcups. Deep low notes are faithfully reproduced without the artificial bass boost found on many audio devices. Highs and mids remain clear and distinct. Additional Bose acoustic equalization techniques help bring out audio details conventional headphones often fail to replicate.
Comfortable Fit
Bose around-ear headphones are also ergonomically designed so you can wear them easily for extended periods of time. Weighing just five ounces, they're so light and comfortable you may even forget you have them on. The soft-cushioned earcups gently surround your ears and swivel for a better fit. You can also adjust the sleek headband up to three inches in length.
Carry Bag Included
Slip your phones into the included drawstring carry bag for easy transport.

The AE1's made it back from that deployment in one piece and saw regular use during my time off from work. A year after returning, the AE1's and I were heading back to Afghanistan again. This time, they didn't get as much use as before but they still saw use at least a few times per week for more than an hour at a time and they never missed a beat (no pun intended). Even with constant packing and unpacking of rucksacks and duffel bags, these headphones miraculously survived it all and kept me entertained during my down time.
Fast forward to now... I am now learning a language at the Army's Defense Language Institute and I use these AE1's everyday for audio exercises during school hours and for music when I'm unwinding at the end of each day. They still sound just as good as they did the day I bought them but their age is showing. The ear cushions are flaking and it leaves black dandruff-looking sprinkles all over the place. The cushions are also almost completely compressed and there's not as much cushion as there once was. Obviously, a simple cushion replacement is in order but other than that, these AE1's have impressed me.
I'm no audiophile by any means, but prior to joining the military, I played guitar in a couple bands and regularly played shows. I know what live music is supposed to sound like and I know what kind of sound I'm looking for.
Pros:
- Crisp, deep bass (without being overbearing)
- Nice mids, and decent highs
- Comfort and lightweight
Cons:
- No case for proper storage
- Flakey ear cushions
- The ridiculously long cable is kind of awkward for portable use
- Sometimes, I want more bass
Overall, I'm impressed with how these things have held up over the years. I definitely expected these to fall apart at some point. I don't doubt the reviews that cite poor quality, but my experience is very different. These things have been a godsend. I'll be purchasing some new ear cushions in the near future and hope to get another 4+ years out of these things.
My nephew has the same headphones & his issue was the insulation separating from the delicate wire leaving exposed wire with no support at the ear cup. They still work but the insulation was broken & pulled back 1/8". He said he regularly falls asleep with them on so there's most most likely been a lot tension applied. In his case it left nothing on the ear cup side to maybe cut the wire & shrink wrap without opening up the cup for some slack.
So yeh, the build is disappointing for a $140.00 Bose (or any other)product.
On the sound side these things rock. As mentioned earlier my son has a pair. I often "borrowed" them when he was not around because I liked how they sounded compared with my $25 Sony's. When I decided to buy my own headphones I intentionally avoided these thinking I could do better even spending a bit more money proving once again that I'm smarter than him...lol.
After moving into the $200.00 range on well known can's that I wasn't happy with & returned, I admitted defeat & returned to the Bose Around Ear Headphones.
Yes, you can get a better sounding set by spending into the $300.00 range & up but if you know how to treat them they sound great for the price. I've had mine for almost 2 years & haven't had either of the issues mentioned. I've fallen asleep more than once with'em on so maybe they've fixed the build issues.
I'm a bit of a basshead & love these. The bass is very powerful. The mid's & high's are lacking if anything but the bass kicks hard. They are a little large but they're pretty light weight. All the outside the ear phones get to the point that you need a break after an hour or so. I've seen a few pictures in the wife's People Mag. of stars jogging & they're wearing these.
I listen to a wide range of music from Grateful Dead to country to Andrea Bocelli. Enjoying female vocalists like Linda Eder to Sara Evans lately for what it's worth.
It's a treat to put these on & listen to some good tunes if you like some chest thumping bass.
The construction of the band part seems a little cheap for the sound quality, and about two weeks ago, the cord actually partially came out of the plug part after a couple of years of use, so I can only hear sound from one ear right now, but I am not going to hesitate in purchasing a new set. Ok, well, I am hesitating a little, because they cost so much, but I know it's worth it and although I keep putting it off, I know I'm going to be buying these -- I guess I was just hoping they'll go on sale or something. I keep looking at other headphones, but ... nothing I've ever used has even come close to the sound that comes out of these. I just wish they were about $20 cheaper. Off to purchase now...
