Unboxing the headphones has a high end feel with quality packaging and quality feel of the headphones and case. I really like the headphone case for these. The case protects the headphones and charges them. The headphones can last up to 5 hours with one charge and the case has capacity to charge them 2 more times for an additional 10 hours of play. That is great feature when on a long flight where 5 hours of charge may not be enough. You charge the has through usb connection and the case shows power left through front lights on the case. A+ job from Bose on the case in my opinion.
Connecting the headphones to my iPhone 7 plus was easy and without issue. You have to download the Bose Connect App to setup the headphones. Once downloaded the application will find your headphones and connect them to your phone. The application has a feature to find your headphone(s) if you loose them as it will record, through location services, where it was last connected to your phone. You have to set your phone location services to "always on" for the application.
I'm still getting comfortable with how these headphones fit in your ear. I finally got them to feel snug but it took a little time to get the fit right. At times they headphones feel like the could fall out as they are weighted on the end and that creates a bit of feel that they could fall out. That feel has improved as I get comfortable with how they go in my ears and how they feel in my ears. I don't think the Bose are aesthetic as the Apple wireless headphones. My wife said I looked like Spock or some Star Trek person with them on. I agree some what but not enough to make it a negative.
I like the sound of the headphones. I find them to be clear, crisp, with enough base to make my favorite music (Heavy Metal) sound good. The headphones sound good in quiet places or in light noise places. I took them downtown on the train the other day and I have to turn them up fairly high as train and crowd sound was drowning out the music sound. The headphones are marketed towards sports, riding bike, running, working out etc, so maybe external noise won't be a major factor.
Overall, I like the headphones. I love the case and the sound of these are good. The fit of the headphones are ok but take a bit to get comfortable with. I am surprised by the price since Apple sells their wireless for much less, which is rare for Apple. I'm wondering how Bose is going to position these when other well known brands are less. I would recommend checking these out if you don't like the style or sound of the Apple wireless headphones or other brands. Bose quality and sound are compelling but at a price premium.
You know how it sounds when you walk in a room, and a really nice speaker is playing? Say, on both sides of you?
These do not sound like your typical headphones, where it is just narrow/low quality noise. These are full-sounding, rich, almost give you the feeling you are not wearing headphones at all.
In other words, these are the best headphones I have used, this includes normal over ear headphones. Great option.
The sound is great, but the comfort level, for me, just isn’t there. That they’re small is great, and the charging case is just as slick as the AirPods, but I find these larger units even less comfortable than those by Apple. And neither feels stable enough in my ear for me to work out while wearing them, unlike the far more basic, and less expensive, Beats. I have tried even cheaper Bluetooth earbuds and can’t really recommend, as well as high-end over-the-ear models, which I also don’t really love, based mostly on feel.
If you like the way these fit and feel in your ear, you’ll probably love the ease of use, compact package and very good sound quality … But this is definitely a case of great function, poor feel, for me personally whereas my husband flat out loves them, and has claimed them for himself.
These are not noise cancelling (which works for me because I use them on my commute on the subway- I need to sort of hear the stop names to keep track of where I am), but they do overall dull the sound of the background noise I can hear from the train. They also are discreet, which I like. No wires. With the iPhone 7, you lose out on the cellphone port so you can't wear headphones and charge your phone at the same time. This really matters on a plane, for instance, when you might want to listen to music while charging your phone. I also find that the headphones aren't particularly battery draining, unlike some other Bluetooth headphones. Finally, it is nice not to have a wire between the earbuds which can get tangled in my hair.
The only negative I see - and this is the reason for the four star rating - these are big and they aren't that comfortable. You get 3 tips - small, medium and large, but even the small ones feel a bit big and it takes some effort to get them inserted well. I always feel like they are going to fall out. I am not a runner so I don't wear them to the gym or anything like that, but I don't feel that they fit securely enough that they would be comfortable for exercise. I would have preferred some sort of loop that goes around the ear to hold them in place better.
I have not tried the Apple earpods, so I can't compare to those, but keep in mind that the Bose Model is definitely bigger and less sleek.
