Bose® SoundTouch 20 Wi-Fi Music System
Streaming music at the touch of a button
What makes the Bose SoundTouch 20 system so special? Just press one button, and you're immediately enjoying your favorite Internet radio station. Music service. Or an iTunes playlist. Stuff that usually takes clicking or tapping and scrolling just to access. Now it's right at your fingertips—like having your favorites on speed dial. No computer, tablet or smartphone needed. Plus, you'll be treated to rich, full-range sound that brings your music to life.
Yes, it's compact. But rest assured, the SoundTouch 20 system delivers sound way beyond its size. Custom-designed transducers produce surprisingly clean mid and high frequencies so vocals and instruments sound lifelike, while an advanced ported enclosure gives the sound sufficient punch to easily fill a room. Meanwhile, proprietary digital signal processing keeps the performance evenly balanced, whether you crank the volume or play it at late-night bedside levels. Go ahead and compare it to any other Wi-Fi speaker this size. We think you'll find there's no comparison.

Every SoundTouch Wi-Fi music system is a dynamic hub--a powerhouse--for your streaming music. Diagnosis: It's a decent product, but not a great one, and Bose should seriously consider fixing some of the problems in a software update. I *want* to like this device. Otherwise I would not have invested the time to write this lengthy review. I'm going to keep the device for a few more weeks to see if it grows on me. If the audio streaming bugs become less frequent, I may keep it.
Some critical things that are not mentioned in the printed materials (found these on the Bose website after the commenters below mentioned one of them):
Press and hold the Volume Down plus the following number buttons for:
1 & vol-: Factory reset. (Hold 10 secs.)
2 & vol-: Broadcast temp wifi network for standalone Airplay streaming or wireless network setup/change. (Hold 5 secs.)
3 & vol-: Disable/enable device wifi. (Hold 5 secs.)
4 & vol-: Software update. (Hold 5 secs.)
5 & vol-: System info (Hold 5 secs, then press volume up or down through the info screens.)
Press and hold AUX to reset the device when it crashes or hangs.
First of all, the good parts:
1. Sound is very good for a small, portable package. This is basically the only thing I tested prior to purchasing, so I have no complaints regarding sound quality.

Update. AirPlay action between the Bose sound touch and both my iPad and iPod is really very hit or miss. You can't whip on a song quickly, you have to fight through error messages first. My favorite error message is AirPlay already in use by another device. Once you get that error the only solution I found is to cycle both devices, cross your fingers, and try again. Pandora is the only thing that works reliably on this Bose product. I have even lost all my local radio stations. They just don't work no matter what I try. Bose, wake up your programming department and get them tasked with fixing these multiple errors please!
Update, as of today, 10/8, my soundtouch is now a complete vegetable due to the latest update. I did call the Bose help desk to see if there was anything they could due, although they were pleasant, it was a complete waste of time.Read more ›
Although a little pricey, you get what you pay for. I doubt there is anything this small and portable with this type of sound quality.
This product is, essentially, a high end speaker with a few, very well designed and implemented, Wi-Fi features.
Well worth the 5 stars. And this is why:
First of all, I wouldn't give it five stars if the sound were not outstanding. But I am not going to talk about it here, with Bose it goes without saying.
The purpose of this review is rather to address some common complaints, mainly about the set-up process, in my opinion totally unjustified.
I have seen a lot of complaints about having to use a cable for the initial set-up.
THE CABLE IS OPTIONAL. It can make the set-up process easier, when using a computer.
The SoundTouch System is able to broadcast its own network - you would have to press together key # 2 and volume down (speaker symbol and minus sign) for a few seconds. Then, go into your computer/phone/table Wi-Fi settings, find the Bose network, connect to it and complete the setup. This is a onetime deal.
The set-up process is easy and intuitive. I completely disagree with the criticism to this step. It takes just a few clicks, key strokes and 5 minutes to do it. The steps are very well outlined in the user's manual.
I just wish that those who complained about the "cable issue" had the patience to explore the manual before complaining about it.
If you cannot follow this simple process, then just call the Bose customer service - they are available all day, very courteous and professional and they really know their stuff. It is unfair to down rate an excellent product just because you lack the minimal skills or the patience to follow a very simple set-up process.
Now, the beauty of it is that Apple users (iPhone/Pod/Pad) don't even need to go through the set-up process.Read more ›
