At Boska Holland we've been crazy about cheese for over 100 years! It all started near Gouda, home of the original Gouda cheeses, where Willem Bos made his first cheese tools for local cheese farmers. From that day it's our family tradition to inspire you on your journey through the delicious cheeses of the world. Explore cheese and enjoy it. Did you know that you can get more taste from your favorite cheese with a cheese slicer? Nice thin slices for the most delicious sandwiches you ever had. A fresh slice tastes better, because when sliced it get's in contact with oxygen. Just like wine.
Top customer reviews
Unlike the types with a wooden handle, this can be thrown into the dishwasher with no adverse effects. The handle and the slicing portion are noticeably sharper than I have observed on other cheese slicers of this type. The edge which actually slices through the cheese is very sharp, almost no pressure is required in order to pull this across a cheese. Even a rather firm cheese, such as a Jarlsberg, can be sliced readily and without the irksome crooked, dragging, and pulling, that other slicers require to slice a hard cheese.
This is a good, basic tool, yet beautifully streamlined, this can be placed on a cheeseboard when guests are present, it is that nice. I recommend this slicer, it costs a bit more, but. It lasts much longer, and does a superior job of slicing cheese.
No one uses the other planes anymore. The build quality in this one is fantastic. It feels sturdy in the hand, the cutting surface is sharp, it's wide enough for a normal block of cheese (or wedge of gouda), and there's a bit of flex to the blade, but not too much. Frankly, I don't need or want any more bells and whistles than that!
I'll be recommending this one to friends and family when they visit and enjoy using ours!
I read reviews on this planer and a few others. I opted to go with this since it was one piece, all stainless and most of the reviews seemed acceptable. I've seen some people complain about crumbling cheese and if I'm planing off a piece of cheese, I do tend to get a less than perfect result at the very end of the block of cheese, but I think this is going to happen with any planer. When it is important to me to get a perfectly shaved piece, like if I'm putting parm into a caesar salad, I just lift up a fraction when I'm nearing the end of the block. That seems to work fine.
I'll be buying a few more of these to add to gift baskets for the holidays.
