Garrett Love was a man who was living at the top of the world. Sexy good looking bad boy, wall street successful job, and the world at his fingertips but he was more devil than a saint, and he brought about a lot of harm and damage in his own family, and with other people. His drinking, partying, and lack of personal responsibility lead to a whirlwind destructive self-spiraling out of control until his brother, Wes, stepped in and made him confront his destructive behavior. That was ten years ago, he went through a six-month clean-up program, and now he has Hope Reigns, a program for children of alcoholic parents. Garrett has avoided relationships for ten years since he has been sober, to claim never again, and then along came Bella Buchanan.
“Never say never, sweetheart. That’s usually when love comes to find you.” --Mama
Bella Buchanan is a recovering alcoholic with a son, Oliver, that his father has custody of, and she gets one weekend per month. She will be able to get him into Hope Reigns for several weeks through a donor program. Bella is a beautiful woman who still hasn’t managed to get her life together even though she has been sober for five years. Her home is a pig-sty, she has poor eating habits, and she is irresponsible with her work ethics and paying her bills. If there was ever a woman who needed someone to hold her accountable and tighten the reigns on her reckless behavior, she could become their poster child.
The plot will have Bella bringing Oliver to Hope Reigns, and there is instant chemistry between her and Garrett, but she waits until the last of Oliver’s visit to ask about a job. Garrett will say yes, but he will have conditions and rules, along with discipline.
“I wanted Bella. All of her. Mind, body, and soul. I was in love wither. Maybe there was something to be said about forgiveness, redemption, second chances.”
“You are worthy of love and so much more. Devotion. Adoration. Tender loving care. And I will show you your worth. That, I can guarantee. And I know you will do nothing but argue this point with me, Bella, so I will say goodnight. You rest in the knowledge that you are worthy.”
The past must be acknowledged, accepted, and even embraced for both Garrett and Bella to move forward in life. Garrett will be strict with her, but she needs order, guidance, and yes, domestic discipline. She needs someone to hold her accountable, push her to be better, and punish her and keeping her in line, helping her move forward to a better life.
“We all carried baggage with us. For some of us, the bags were just heavier, packed all by ourselves with our choices. You can never go back and change the past. Being able to walk through the future with someone who understood your past was possible. And a miracle. I took the time to process the wild mix of emotions that overwhelmed me. I was nervous, borderline scared, feeling guilty for my mistake. And I was turned on. By his power, his control, his concerns, and his kiss. And he loves me.”
The story is raw, edgy, honest, and an accounting of errors and making restitution for those past errors. It is also a reality check of putting the past in the past and moving forward, making the future a better place, and accepting that life isn’t perfect, but each person must strive to make each day better, for themselves, and those in their life. Garrett will man up to several people he wronged, including one that was innocent. He will also be the catalyst for shaking up Bella’s life and guiding her forward, holding her accountable, and punishing her with love and domestic discipline. The story has many discipline scenes and explicit sex scenes. The story ends on a very happy note, and with a sneak peek at the next book, Mastering Her Will (March 2018) Buttercup and Jake Hargett’s story.
“I like my escapades in the bedroom to look like my riding boots at the end of the day. Filthy dirty.”—Bella
“I knew what she needed. And what she needed more than anything right now was loving discipline.”--Garrett
I really enjoyed reading about Bella and Garrett. This books jumps right on in, but not when they first meet, but several weeks later when she asks for a job. Sometimes I had to remind myself of this while reading the book. I loved Bella, being such a mess, but wanting so much more, but feeling like she doesn’t deserve any of it, but needing love and guidance. Garrett was perfect for everything she needed and so much more. His stability was the perfect compliment to her wildness, their pasts held mutual hurts that they could relate to, and while they both felt like they didn’t deserve love, they both reached for it with open arms. This book had the perfect balance between dirty and sweet. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to what may come next in this series!
