Lukas is broken man dealing with the sudden loss of his only child at the hands of her drunken mother. Nicole is a career-driven single mother with a tough-as-nails exterior, but with a deep longing for marriage and motherhood. These two initially cannot stand one another, but through Nikki's daughter Kelly, they come to tolerate each other, initially through a sexual attraction which eventually grows into something deeper that scares the both of them.
This story is not just a romance, but a story about loss, healing, and second chances. I highly recommend this one!
This book made me laugh at times when I probably shouldn't have.. I should let anyone know who is reading this review.. my sense of humor is quite different from most. I know that when he said he really didn't have time for crackhead conversations... I fell out laughing... okay back to the story.
Angry black woman meets sassy white man... I knew right after their meeting I would love this book. I thought that Luke was going to be a push over.. I was actually expecting that... boy was I wrong. (not giving more than that.. read the book) and Nicole... I promise in the beginning I wanted to yell CUT IT OUT RIGHT NOW... but all in all everything went like it was supposed to go.
However one thing did annoy me...The whole Tony and Nicole "My brother" "My sista" thing annoyed me... I am black and I have never heard that whole my brother sister thing in the setting of another race... unless you are talking to someone from an older generation. "Insert kanye shoulder shrug" it didn't take away from the book but I was like.. yawn during that moment.
I think I honest fell in love with Kelly and Luke's relationship, it was very sweet and loving even from the beginning.
So... overall I really enjoyed this book and I will be recommending to friends.
Signing off.. It all started with a TV and a scuff mark.
The Boss Lady is a nice stand alone by one of my favorite authors.
