Having cut my staple removing teeth (pun intended) on the old-fashioned claw-style staple remover (BAZIC Claw Style Staples Remover, 2 Per Pack), I graduated to the "ultimate" staple remover (Swingline Ultimate Staple Remover, Platinum (S7038121)). Just when I thought I had reached the pinnacle of staple removing ease (after all, the word "ultimate" does mean "the best achievable or imaginable of its kind," doesn't it?), my world was rocked. ROCKED.
I had not even begun to imagine the possibilities. I didn't even know what I was missing until I felt the sweet caress of the Stanley Bostich Professional Magnetic Staple Remover in my hand. Contoured to fit my hand, just like my Venus razor, with a comfort grip so that the staple removing calluses on my sore hands could heal at last...how have I ever removed a staple any other way? What sort of life of misery and drudgery have I been living up to this point?Read more ›
Just got a current model of the Bostitch "Contemporary" (aka Easy) to replace this "Professional" (which I didn't like) and have discovered they (unfortunately) changed its design over the years and it's now got a narrow blade. Not as narrow as the "Professional" but the current "Contemporary" does not have a blade as wide as my old version of the "Contemporary." I've uploaded a picture today of the 3 for comparison. The picture is a little misleading but I promise you the older model "Contempoary" (the one on the far right in the picture) has a blade wider than the other two.
I don't have much more time to spend here in the review. Let me just say, I have a tiny company and I have multiple point of sale receipts (cash register tapes, if you will) to remove from cash vouchers and other documents. Of the 3 staple removers, only my old "Contemporary" model can reliably remove the staples without severely obliterating data from the tissue paper thin receipts during the process of lifting the staple.
I hope Bostitch reads this. That's the main reason I'm posting this review. I hope they find it worthwhile to redesign the blade so that the blade width more closely matches the staple width--just like the "good old days." They'll have a great product again!
This Bostitch "Professional" model 40000M-BLK rips paper much more than the standard Bostitch "Easy" model BOS40000. Well, 'the other plastic staple remover is called "Easy" at an Amazon product page but Bostitch actually calls it "Contemporary" at the Bostitch web site.. I bought two of these - one for use at work and one for use at home. On both of them, the magnet is too weak to have any perceptible effect. The staple slides off the tool, and I must pick it up from my desktop several inches from where the staple was removed. I would prefer a magnet strong enough to hold the staple conveniently on the tool after the staple is removed. I suspect that may have been the intent of the designer, but on the two units that I bought, it doesn't work.
The magnet is handy for picking up the staples after they have been removed. The staples do not stick to the staple remover during the removal process, but you can hold the bottom of the staple remover against the removed staples on your desktop, and it picks them up, so you can then more easily remove those staples from the bottom of the staple remover - it's just easier than picking the staples up from the desktop using your fingers. This is not the purpose that I expected, but in practice it is helpful. I remain very enthusiastic about using the staple remover when three or more pages are stapled together - something I do frequently.

Very easy to get the staples out! I had one of the 'jaws' style staple removers before and while they worked fine, in time the 'teeth' were eventually bent and are no longer... Read morePublished 1 day ago by "E"
