What Critics Are Saying About the Boston Acoustics i-DS2

There’s a certain level of clean class in the iDS2 that suggest that real industrial designers came up with the shape, selected the materials, and thought out the system’s cosmetic expandability—this is a unit we would enjoy having in a home.” iLounge, August 2008

The Horizon iDS2 from Boston Acoustics is a solid-performing iPod speaker that offers a better, beefier sound than many competing models.” --CNET, August 2008

The main reason this should be at the very top of your iPod speaker system list is the sound quality. The bass is amazing – this is a very rich, clean sounding system that filled our kitchen with high fidelity. Amazing sound for the size and price.” --Audioholics, September 2008

When judging iPod speakers docks for the home, there are two major points to consider: sound quality and price. Secondary factors, such as style and extras, also factor into the equation. When judged on these criteria. The Boston Acoustics iDS2 iPod Speaker dock is a terrific success.” --About.com, October 2008

Over the past two months I have read reviews for the various ipod speaker docks as well as tested several in stores. I'm not sure you'll find many comparable to this one, especially in this price range. I agree with the previous review that you will have to adjust the EQ on your ipod to boost the treble otherwise the bass can become overpowering with some types of music. If you're looking for simple design with surprising sound, this is the one. I owned a portable speaker dock prior to this and ended up parting with it. Although I can't fold this down and put it in a case to take it wherever I go, the sound quality far outweighs the portable ability.

Very full sound for small speakers...I use it for my Ipod Touch and Classic. It charges them both and can also connect directly to my lap top. At first it lacked a little clarity but when I changed my Ipod's EQ to treble boost it came to life. Worth every penny.

I had been looking a while for an IPOD speaker system. Then I saw this on sale at Amazon. Boston Acoustics at a reasonable price. I bought it (figured I couldn't go wrong). I'm happy I did.

I have owned it about 1 month. It is a substantial speaker system, heavy, not cheap like many of the other systems I see lining the shelfs at costco or bestbuy. The sound is terrific (no, it doesn't rival my expensive full sized polk audio stereo system, but it does sound better than my fairly nice altec lansing computer speakers). I can be a bit of an audiophile, so I was pleasantly surprised these sound as well as they do for a small bookshelf unit. I shouldn't be surprised, BA makes pretty good equipment.

Easy to use.

The remote is limited as someone said, but that is to be expected (we are talking simple operation). It forward/backs up for next or previous song, it pauses and it powers down. Simple functionality. You do have to choose your playlist through the ipod menus before hitting play.

I liked it so much that when I saw it on sale (apparently) again today, I ordered one for my bedroom and then decided to write this review.

Yes, I would prefer the black one, but I can easily adapt to white for the price difference.

Other than the finicky switch on the top that decides how long you have to hold it down to turn on or off, this has god clear high and mid range and way too much bass. Long after Apple switched the phone dock connector, since this has a headphone "in" jack in the back as well as a USB "square" jack, it is still a useful and powerful audio device. If you come across one on eBay, etc., it is worth grabbing. I really like the white finish on this.

I was searching for a good portable speaker for my ipod. I narrowed my choices to iHome iP1 and Altec Lansing Mix iMT800. Both bulky systems the third one was Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo-i that got a lot of positive reviews but finally I found out about Boston Acoustics Horizon I-DS2 iPod Dock on sale on Amazon. I couldn't go wrong with Boston Acoustics especially for $99. I love the sound and low bass. If you don't want to spend $300+ for ipod portable system - pick this one you will not regret.

Got this as a gift a year and a half ago. It has gotten daily play over the last year at work. Quiet, not pushing the system much. The sound is amazing! Compliments all the time how good it sounds. Now it sucks. Freezing up, won't power down and is forcing me to unplug the power cable each time I remove my iphone or place it back on.

Was great while it lasted, but an expensive paperweight now.

I purchased this ipod dock when it was a deal of the day for $99.00 from Amazon. When I first recieved the product, I was amazed with the quality of the sound. The built in subwoofer is awesome! Now, just after a year after purchasing it, I'm having problems with it. It continues to power off while my ipod is playing. Then I have a hard time getting it to power back up again. Is anyone else having this problem? When I called Boston Acoustics, they referred me to United Radio who fixes their ipod docks. I was told it would cost anywhere from $95-$260 to fix it! That's crazy!!! Now, this item is no longer available for purchase from Amazon. So, looks like I'll be looking for a new dock. Not sure if I'll go with Boston again. :(

We tried a lot of different sound systems before deciding to keep the Boston's. These speakers sound as good as the Bose Mediamate speakers and they have an on/off switch which the Bose don't have. They also have a remote and charge your iPod. Five stars. They look good too.
