Just buy all seasons. I did. Not a single regret. Boston Legal is one of the best shows that ever existed.

I'm a Boston Legal fan, so what some may consider ridiculous, I just sit back and enjoy the show...starting w/ James Spader who always delivers great closing arguments...and some funny/dry lines throughout.
William Shatner has such a well written role, he's actually very funny as well. Denny Crane is the only role I can watch Shatner in.
Another over-the-top, not entirely accurate portrayal of litigators lives with just enough glitter to keep you tuned.

My wife and I hit upon the Boston Legal series when it was in reruns. Don't ask me where we were but we missed it when it originally ran on TV. Why on earth didn't this series last 8 or 10 seasons is a mystery to us. We have the DVD's sitting on the cabinet next to the TV. When the usual garbage comes on we resort to the Boston Legal DVD's. and watch the next episode or two. Boston Legal is especially good if you are depressed about the news, weather, or just life in general! Both my wife and I always get a good laugh and I think we are probably in our 4th or 5th time watching the series. Of the hundreds of DVD's we own this series is the most watched and enjoyed. Usually lawyer shows are stuffy and what not! But Boston Legal is something else. My only regret is that the likes of William Shatner and others are probably too old to resurrect this series. I grew up with William Shatner's "Star Trek" and love that very much, but Shatner's performance in Boston Legal is out of this world and better! And why we don't see more of James Spader is another mystery to me. He is great!

We have the complete 5 seasons. Season 5 is disappointing only for being the end of this show's run. The entire series should be watched from the beginning to see the characters develop. In a nut shell, Alan Shore(James Spader) amd Denny Crane(William Shatner) are wealthy, successful members of the prestigious law firm "Crane, Poole and Schmidt". Denny being one of the senior partners wields a lot of influence. There are many other characters to add to the interesting mix of humor and politics. As one of the Judges in the mix, the Hon. Clark Brown(Henry Gibson) puts it, "Outrageous!"
I've seen very few tv series that kept me interested throughout the entire run. This one is a great effort and definitely a "must see."

I get lost in all the series of Boston Legal..... I don't know who or what I love more. Alan Shore or Denny Crane... or all of it. This series was so spot on being able to spout truth before everything became YOU CAN'T SAY THAT....... This series was allowed to stretch everything and be drama and funny at the same time. I was sad when the series ended.. BUT...... I have the series thanks to technology.... ain't it great... some things never die....... whoooooo-hoooooo!!!!!

All I have to say is if you remember the show Boston Legal then you will immediately love this series of DVD's. If you have no exposure then you should purchase one season after another. Season Five is no exception. Perhaps one of the best things about Boston Legal is that the writer has mixed comedy and lots of sexual inuendo with the legal problems of various clients. And to add to the fun, the clients and their legal problems are off beat also. One of the best things is that this show has no laugh tract when it was made or added to the DVD's. When my funny bone is tickled, I laugh. I don't like being told when to laugh via a laugh track. Nobody's profession is immune from attack from David E. Kelly (productions). You find qwirky people in the clients, lawyers, and the judges! There of course is an undercurrent of seriousness to every case depicted which rounds out the show. And the show does not play down to your intelligence. Buy it you will love it!

I started watching Boston Legal because I like James Spader. I thought it would be a hard hitting legal drama. I 'was surprised at the delightful mix of drama and comedy. The characters are a mixed bag each showing their own vulnerabilities and strengths. There is almost always a serious legal situation surrounded by the firms eccentric and brilliant lawyers. I loved watching it. James Spader was wonderful and William Shatner provided bluster and comic relief. 5 stars!

I am a fan of James Spader. His versatility is amazing! I have become a fan of the Blacklist and decided to re-visit Boston Legal, and, specifically, James Spader. What a talent! He can play any role.
I think that Boston Legal is not only entertaining, but always provides a pertinent message. The entire cast is excellent.
The series stands the test of time and is not out-dated. It is so much better than the stupid reality television that is so prevalent today. When you watch Boston Legal, you learn something worthwhile. What does the television audience learn from reality TV? I shudder to think what that might be.

As good as TV has ever been
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 4, 2011Verified Purchase
If you're going to watch any Boston Legal start with Season 1. The show is as good as anything I've ever seen and at the same time, I've never seen anything quite like it and this season reminds me what a gem it was.
You need to have seen the previously Seasons to really 'get' this last season as the shows producers knew they were ending their run, I think they designed this seasons to keep the regular fans happy, revisit previous ideas and tie up some loose ends.
If you know what has happening at the time these episodes were being aired (specifically in relation to the production of Boston Legal) you'll enjoy it a lot more. Throughout all the series they make a few jokes at the expense of themselves.
The show was famously moved from different week nights and different times in order to try and find a bigger audience. While it never quite reached the huge audience figures required to keep a prime-time show in a prime-time slot it did attract the most affluent audience of any television show aired before or since (according to figures from Nielsen).
An intelligent show for an intelligent audience. Fingers crossed for something similar in the near future.

Great series

Ah, the bittersweet moment of watching a boxset of one of your favourite TV shows when you know it is the last series they'll make.
It can be quite hard to be objective, as you inevitably watch it through rose tinted glasses.
However, in this case, I have no doubt it's worth a full 5 stars. The plots for the main characters are tied up nicely, with Denny and Alan reaching their logical (and very amusing) conclusion.
Some of the episodes are fantastic. The first part of the 2 part finale is fantastic, and the thanksgiving dinner episode easily ranks as one of the funniest episodes of the show.
Only slight downside was that I expected more of a wrap up from some of the other characters - disappointing not to see Brad or Denise for the finale, for example. Judge Brown should also have made an appearance I think. But that's a minor criticism compared to the numerous high points.
I awarded Boston Legal 4 a four star rating, as I felt it wasn't as strong as the previous ones - but the final season is a superb return to form. Just a shame it's all over!

Boston Legal - The Best Entertainment - Second To None
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 5, 2010Verified Purchase
I have been a big fan of Boston Legal for many years now; I think the series started around 2004. It is so well written, I can't remember another TV show, which comes anywhere near. The interactions between the characters (especially Denny Crane and Alan Shore - William Shatner and James Spader are truly magical. Other characters have been added along the way and all have slotted in remarkably well due to the highly skilled writing.
The 5th and (as far as I'm aware) final season was shown some 2 years ago and even in this David E Kelly has shown the good sense not to do a successful formula to death. I have bought all 5 seasons dvd and I must confess, in all honesty, I have and still enjoy every single episode.

A legal high

One of the best series draws to a close in style: trust me it would be a crime to miss this swan song. The scripts have consistently delivered and with a brilliant cast who seem to really enjoy themselves, it will be a long time before the pure brilliance of this series fades into the distance. For anyone yet to catch this series, I feel really jealous because every series has consistenly delivered. Prepare to scream with laughter at the irreverence of William Shatner and James Spader. This is how comedies should be: disgracefully funny.

poor value, but completes the series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 22, 2011Verified Purchase
well i just had to have this to complete the series, but to be honest it's poor value in comparison to seasons 1-4. far fewer episodes and these themselves are not quite up to the wonderful standard reached previously. yes, there are some very good moments, but the great ones are few and far between. there are a couple of twists in the tale incl. a gut wrenching moment on the terrace (shudder!). this truly wonderful series goes out on a bit of a whimper rather than a roar. ooohhhh...how we'll miss you tho!
