Opie Green knows one subject really well: wine. He can tell Methode Champenoise from Methode Traditionelle with his eyes closed. And he can open your bottle faster than you can say "double-magnum." Opie and I got along well for a short while. He wasn't my primary Sommelier, he was actually my travel partner. We went on two cruises together, until his "spiffy Sommelier suit" (a direct quote from his description page, lol!) snapped in two right in my hand just as he was helping me open a bottle of wine. That might be attributed to the fact that Opie is a 'green' dude made from an "innovative recycled plastic and wood blend" which, as it turns out probably wasn't so innovative after all. Opie was always given a lot of TLC but still our time together was cut way too short. When not in use, he so graciously adorned my kitchen and as he received soooo many compliments from family and friends, I'm giving him two stars.
Now he's simply poor NAKED Opie. :-(
The grip isn't rubberised so can be a little slippery compared to our original one but other than that, it's great. Also dishwasher safe.
Very easy to keep clean, stick it in the dishwasher once you're done scrubbing. I like to get in there with dish soap and baking soda to get rid of any grime, then put it in the silverware basket.
The design of this brush helps keep the kitchen looking nice in spite of having tools about. A plus if you have company often who might make their way toward your kitchen, or if you like letting your kids help out in the kitchen. My daughter thinks this brush is hilarious, and sometimes is willing to help me out with the dishes if I let her scrub with this guy.
But who are we kidding? All of that is really beside the point when you have a potato masher with deadlocks. :)
The key to this being the best brush is the arc of the bristles. Most brushes have a flat scrub surface, but this one is arched, which helps it get into the curves of bowls, pots, and rounded dishes. Most of our stuff is rounded, so this is essential.
Because only a front photo is shown, you cannot see how the bristles arc over the back of the head. Just picture a "fat" Mohawk.
The downside to this is that, if you push too hard, you can create a split or "part" in the middle of the mohawk. (most brushes we use have gotten this gap, tho) The arc is still there, there's just a gap in the middle.
Gunk can collect on the "scalp", so be sure to rinse that area (with a spray, if possible) after each wash, to prolong scum-free use.
The handle is thick enough to offer a comfortable grip when doing a sinkload of dishes. We cook 3 meals a day in our house and so we do a lot of dishes, this guy gets a lot of use.
After a year of heavy duty use, the "guy" still looks new, the bristles (other than the gap) are still stiff and not discolored. After trying several others, in other styles, I am back to purchase another one of these.
I rely on amazon to help me make informed buying decisions. I hope this review has helped you in the same manner. :)
Most importantly, this brush is pretty fun to have sitting on your counter or in your hand while brushing dishes -- I'd say that I enjoy cleaning dishes about 15% more with this brush. I'd buy it again.
