Yeah - it isn't that easy.
My first try at putting one on lead to me literally crushing down the can. Drinking from a crushed down can is ... interesting (I don't like drinking from a glass, OK? Sue me ...). I finally managed to get one on ... then, when I was trying to get it off, it broke. Just snapped right in half. My husband finally came up with a way to easily get the Bottle Top onto the can - warm it up a bit first (the Bottle Top, not the can) by holding it under hot tap water. Once you have done that, put the Bottle Top over the can, evenly placed, and push down with gentle pressure (having the top closed helps to make sure that the pressure is even, but if you want to try it with the top open, be my guest) until it snaps on. It has worked really well for me.
However, it took me a while longer to figure out how to get the things back off ... the next attempt to get the top off led to me actually ripping the can itself into pieces, leaving the top bit of the can with the Bottle Top still intact and impossible to remove. Two of them down and into the trash ... Good thing I got a dozen! Finally I figured it out - you sort of squeeze the can at the top while pulling the Bottle Top at an angle - GENTLY - and it pops right off.
So, lots of experimenting and two Bottle Tops in the trash, but now it works OK and I can safely leave my can of Coke on the dresser while I wander around without worrying about a) a cat knocking my can over or b) a cockroach crawling into it. Hopefully this review will help someone to save themselves some hassle! Good luck and good night ...
I bought these because I like to drink Coke from cans a little at a time. These help to keep the Coke from going flat as quickly once the can is open, but won't keep it as fizzy as it was when you first opened the can (you'd need a pressurized top for that). Also, if the can is almost empty, even with the Bottle Top on, your soda will probably go flat as quickly as it would if it weren't covered.
These tops are also useful for keeping yellow jackets out (which matters for regular soda--yellow jackets usually don't bother diet sodas) and for making sure that the contents don't spill when the can falls over.
Drinking from these is a little weird (it adds a glug-glug sensation that you don't get from drinking directly from the can)--but you get used to it.
These snap on easily, but can be a little tricky until you get the hang of it. Open the can FIRST. With the cap on the Bottle Top closed, position the top over the can at a slight angle and push down. The top should snap on, but if not you might have to move it around slightly to find the sweet spot. Also I think some tops might fit easier than others, so if you are having trouble--switch to a different top. It takes a bit of force--if you aren't careful you can knock the can over--so for your first try you might want to do it in a sink. Having the cap closed helps as it reduces the chances that you might crush the can while trying to push down on the top.Read more ›
Earlier in the year a friend gave me a cap like these, only it works great. Very tight seal that keeps the can as fresh as the screw on cap on a plastic bottle of soda. Do not know the brand of the one I was given, but it worked great. These do not.

I like these. However, the flip up caps wear out and break off. The kind with screw off caps are better.Published 28 days ago by Cletus T, Gadberry
Took me forever to learn how to put this on. Taking it off is no easier. After that I just it is ok. Not very useful because the cap leaks soda. It still keeps things outPublished 29 days ago by Thomas Tan
