I love that this story was about overcoming failure. We all go through some form of failure whether its personal, professional, or within a relationship. Addie manage to cover it all! Following Neale through her obstacles shes facing with her family, her career, and personal life she finally starts to hold her self accountable and finding the solutions that help her overcome and make the biggest come back. This story resonated with me, being an Artist its hard to overcome rejection. We tend to wallow in self pity wondering if every piece you have created is worth it.

Phew, this character is so relatable. The fear of failure can be so crippling that is prevents us from taking the first step or causing us to backtrack when things start going wrong. This book was full of life lessons in work and love as Neale learned the value of hard work, pushing through failure, and taking a chance when you can’t predict the outcome. Ok so I’m not going to lie. Neale annoyed me several times during this book. I really somewhat wanted to shake her by her shoulders and say, “Grow up!” And then do you know what happened? She kinda did. Honestly, calling this a rom-com does the book a bit of a disservice. The writing is sharp, the characters are nowhere near as simperingly perfect as a stereotypical romance, and they develop into fully-realized, interesting people. Woolridge also seamlessly works in modern, well-developed supporting characters who tick the boxes of inclusion without being adamantly, militantly in your face about it. They are simply people living well in their identities and that’s a beautiful thing. It’s not just a rom-com; it’s a bit of a coming-of-age story. Humor? Yes. Sizzling romance? Yes. Flawed, beautiful, whole people who find their way to good things? Yes. And I can’t wait to read what Addie Woolridge comes up with next.

“They, them, and their” were used off and on throughout the book in reference to people. I know times and society are continuously changing but it threw me off at times and I found myself confused for a bit.

I'm going to need to reread this to let it sink in. It's hugely funny, but that humor is rooted in the universally human experience of total failure.

Most books, especially in this genre, fail at being honest about people. Problems mostly stem from simplistic antagonists. Perfect protagonists make few mistakes, if any. This book is uncommonly and beautifully realistic in its depiction both of the haters around us and our own flawed and floundering selves as protagonists in our messy narratives.

I wasn't brave enough to read Neale's disastrous mistakes closely on my first read. They are painfully public, personal, and embarrassing. But they don't destroy her. We get to see resilience in action. And hopefully gain some for ourselves in the process.

I borrowed this as a KU customer. I found its message so valuable, and its story so enjoyable, that I needed to own it. Just a great and a fun book.

I've read both of Addie's books and enjoyed every page. I've laughed, cringed and sympathised with the characters, their problems are relatable and aren't just brushed away in a simple happy ever after.
I really feel like they have to work to get to where they want to be and that really pulled me into the story. Bring on the next one, I'm waiting :-)
