Think of a bouncing ball. When a bouncing ball hits the ground, it bounces back. That's what resilience means — the ability to bounce back from tough times.

Some people seem to just automatically bounce back. But the truth is that resilience is not something you are born with or not — it can be learned.

Bounce Back will help kids find their bounce using cool quizzes, lots of advice, and practical strategies that build up resiliency skills.

They'll learn how to:

  • get to know themselves better
  • understand their emotions
  • coach themselves with self-talk
  • calm themselves when they are upset
  • deal with decisions, disappointments, and new challenges
  • handle situations that are under their control
  • negotiate, compromise, and navigate social conflicts
  • cope with or adjust to serious sources of stress
  • ask for help and guidance

Some people seem to just automatically bounce back from tough times. But the truth is that resilience is not something you are born with—it must be learned. Resilience isn’t just about being tough in the face of adversity, but rather learning to make connections with others, move toward goals, maintain a positive view, and accept that change is part of life.

I am something of a compulsive book buyer and many end up sitting gathering dust on my book shelves. This book is a definite exception, I use it all the time in my work with 10-14 years old. It is a real gem.

The interactive writing style of Bounce Back keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. Each chapter encourages kids to get to know themselves better and actively reflect on how they manage their emotions, disappointments, social conflicts and how to deal with life's challenging situations which may be out of their control. The author uses vignettes, as examples of potential stressful situations, which are easy for the reader to connect to and think how they might handle the situation if it happened to them. Bounce Back's message lets us know challenging situations can also be opportunities to learn more about you and gives guidance on how to go about helping yourself no matter where you are on your journey to becoming resilient.

I feel that it could have a lot more to keep you attention. I am a little disappointed.
