Review

"Whether in sports or in life, you have to know how to bounce back. In this book, Coach Cal gives you a blueprint for overcoming life's setbacks." -- 2008-09 NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers

"If you don't have to bounce back from a perceived failure at some time in your life, you lie about other things too! Given today's economic times, we're all bouncing back in some way. Let Coach Calipari guide you through your bounce back. I'm a big Coach Cal fan and this is a must-read." -- Ken Blanchard, bestselling author of The One Minute Manager

"This book provides valuable honesty, perspective, and an empowered plan of action for not if, but when, hard times hit. None of us, even those at the very top of our fields who seem golden, are immune from shattering life experiences. Coach Calipari, pulling unflinchingly from his own personal pain, shares critical truths. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional, bouncing back is what winners like Coach Calipari do." -- Ashley Judd, Human Rights Activist, Actor, Kentucky fan

"Perhaps the ultimate challenge in sports is how you bounce back when you've been knocked down. John Calipari might be the best ever at responding to such adversity." -- Bob Rotella, bestselling author of Life Is Not A Game of Perfect

"When the ball doesn't bounce your way, you have to find a way to Bounce Back. Coach Calipari provides you with the playbook to rebound from life's many setbacks. -- Harvey Mackay, author of the New York Times #1 bestseller Swim With The Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive

"The essence of Coach Cal's motivational speech that the Yahoo! sales force was fortunate enough to hear in person, is echoed and amplified in this book. Here, the reader has personal access to Coach's tips, real life experiences and his seemingly bottomless reserve of enthusiasm and optimistic determination." -- Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz

I wish I had someone like Coach Cal chirping in my ear, a loooong time ago!

I've been up and down more than a few times in life, and while I have done the best I could with the information I had at the time, I wish to God I would have had the information that is in this book, much sooner.

I have always sat in complete wonderment at how so many successful people seem to handle their setbacks so well, and come back from them like they never happened, and always wished I knew whatever it was that they knew...

This book will tell you.

This book was assigned as part of a Graduate course I was taking. I think the professor must have really liked basketball, otherwise the subject matter as applied to the course itself was a real stretch. Marginal writing, at best.

I bought the audio book version and it was great to hear Calipari's insights in his own voice. You don't have to be a basketball fan, or even necessarily a Calipari fan, in order to glean some valuable new insights from this book and solid strategies for crafting your own bounce back. In the audio version of this book Coach Calipari references a web site, [...], as a place where you can download additional materials and read first hand accounts of other readers' bounce back stories. Unfortunately, by the time I discovered this book that site was no longer active. I sent a couple of emails to the publisher asking if the site had been moved but I never received a response. Perhaps in this Kindle edition that information has been updated (anyone care to comment)? I've given this book to friends who were facing adversity in their personal or professional circumstances and received some sincere thanks in return. I hope it works for you too.

This is a helpful book that provides a lot of good insights on life regardless of your situation. Even if you are not currently trying to "bounce back" from any tragedy or misstep, the tips in this book can be applied to everyday life. Parts of the book come off a little bit redundant, but Coach Cal does a good job of interpreting and applying a similar message to many different situations. I would recommend this book to anyone who is open to tips for being successful in any aspect of life.

The book is a straight forward one written in the self-help genere. Hard work and positive attitude wins, and the message is given in an autobiographical way which will be liked by college basketball fans.

This book is really good and written in the style of how Cal talks, fast streams of consciousness thinking on a level different than most people with no negativity. The book is about recovering from a setback such as a job loss or divorce. He parallels this Trigger Event with his firing from the NJ Nets and the last second loss in the National Championship. He's very successful with this approach as he overlays the lesson with anecdotal stories of his Trigger Event and Bounce Back involving close friends, other coaches and stories of his teams.

If you have NO interest in self improvement, don't worry. Cal's writing style and basketball stories are more than enough to satisfy the basketball fans. You'll be very pleased with this fast, effective read which includes good mentions of his family particularly his wife Ellen who is the rock of the family. Cal may be gone from Memphis but his positive influence on the city will be felt for years.
