Although the snarky dialog (awkwardly peppered with profanities and “F” bombs) was obviously scripted to appeal to a more juvenile gamer audience, it was still a FUN game offering challenging boss fights that required thoughtful strategy and careful planning in regard to inventory, skill sets and companion abilities.
While I’m personally not a big fan of overly tedious inventory and crafting/upgrading systems, I do enjoy taking the time to thoroughly explore the game world and its branching storyline. Rather than plowing through the game just to see how fast I could beat it, I took the time to grind my way through all the side quests made available --- adding HOURS of gameplay to the ticket price. In that regard, one certainly can’t complain about the game not being long enough!
Add to that some replay value, above average graphics, decent combat mechanics, a comprehendible story, and the ability to craft your own player character with even the most basic gender/ethnicity options… and (for me) Bound by Flame was certainly worth every penny of its release price.

Overall - Bound By Flame is one of those games that I'll always remember playing. If you buy it just for an rpg you wont be dissapointed, but if you're looking for Dragon Age you will not find it here. Bound By Flame is just a good game.
Firstly, I'll cover the graphics. Due to it being developed on a lower budget and not a "AAA" game release, my expectations for the graphics were rather low, but I find this game to be beautiful. The characters don't necessarily look real or animate as if they were real, however many of the textures are actually pretty detailed on PS4. It also runs in 1080p on PS4 with a framerate that was said to fluctuate between 30 and 60, but I've definitely had it drop lower than that. But I really like the art direction, lighting, shadows, etc. For a game that wasn't created on a huge budget, Bound by Flame exceeded my expectations.
Secondly, the gameplay is very fun. While not complex or that deep, what's here is quite enjoyable. I especially like a lot of the combat animations; combat maneuvers look more fluid than I was expecting. Even though the gameplay isn't complex, this is an incredibly challenging game that'll challenge most players even on lower difficulty settings.
Thirdly, I'll mention exploration since it's a role-playing game. I feel like I must mention that this isn't a massive open world like Skyrim, it's a far more structured RPG like The Witcher II. If I could compare Bound by Flame to any other RPG, it'd actually be The Witcher II.Read more ›
Bound by Flame is a fantasy-genre action RPG developed by Spiders, a French video game studio. It is their first major RPG to be released for retail, and hopefully not their last. While Bound by Flame doesn't do anything to reinvent the genre, what it does offer is a very unique morality-based theme and an intricate combat system that rewards strategy and endurance over button mashing and speedrunning.
The plot of Bound by Flame is that Vulcan, the hero of the story and a member of a band of mercenaries known as the Freeborn Blades, finds himself possessed by a flame demon after falling victim to a botched magic ritual that was intended to weaken the Ice Lords, a cabal of evil necromancers who have gained control of Vertiel, the world in which the game takes place. While the demon initially appears morally ambiguous-- perhaps even malevolent-- Vulcan soon discovers that the magical powers of fire that the demon offers may outweigh the negative side effects caused by allowing it to have more influence over his mind and body.Read more ›

Combat is like Dark Souls. You must dodge or block your opponent's attacks. But it's more forgiving. I absolutely loved it. It is a short game, yes. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Carl Brown
The controls are pretty bad, the combat is also pretty bad as well. Original Xbox games had better game play than thisPublished 2 months ago by senshi910
This game puts you right into the middle of the action. It has been a long time since I have come across a game that immerses me in it's story like this does. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Kitty
