I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived on Friday (2 day shipping for $3.99 with prime.) I put the batteries in, read through the well-written booklet and did the tests it suggested. We had no problems finding the test objects (penny, quarter, nail) so I started "sweeping" the area where I thought it might be. I found it within 15 minutes. Granted, it wasn't buried in the ground or anything, but we did have several other "hits" that were definitely objects in the ground - strong signals but we just didn't take the time to dig since I knew my ring was buried in grass, not dirt. The kids can't wait for their turn now that the ring has been found. I think they will get some fun use out of it and they want to dig on our other "hits" from tonight.
The pros for this item were the fast shipping, easy to use right out of the box (just had to insert 2 9V batteries), well-written instructions, and it is Made in the USA. It felt sturdy and well-made but it was short in length (it is a Jr. size, after all) - didn't matter for my use but an adult wanting to do some serious detecting would want a longer one. The length feels just right for my children (ages 11, 8 and 5) and it is not too heavy, either. It is very simplistic - two dials (one for power/sensitivity and one for target elimination - like for ruling out iron or other metals if you are getting too much junk in your detecting) and one needle gauge called the "Target Indicator". It made a buzz/beep sound that was easy to hear. One thing - I do not see nor did I read about where you can plug any earphones in - which is a feature other detectors have.
If you have a specific need (like finding a lost ring!) or if your children want to try their hand at metal detecting, this seems like a great product.
There mom and dad take them down to the beach and they love to look for treasures buried in the sand.
I knew this would be the perfect gift for them. So I bought 2 of these jr Bount Hunters metal detectors. First, my husband and I put batteries in them and took to our backyard to try these out. They both work perfect and I know the twins will be so excited to have their very own metal detectors.
You can actually turn the knob on these to pick up everything or turn it to not pick up nickle, and other metals. However, I like the signal to pick up everything that way they will have more anticipation to what they are digging for. It is right on when it makes the noise. You can actually know where to start digging. I was surprised at how well these did at picking up the siginals. I like that it has a pictured meter that shows how close the object is and when the battery gets low.
If they really get into this , I will gladly spend the extra money on a upscale one on a future Christmas. But for the beginner this is a perfect metal detector. Looking forward to my husband and I and the twins going metal detecting on the days ahead.
I've played with it a few times, the first time we found a metal bracket/hinge buried in our garden, about a foot down into the dirt. I'd definitely say that qualifies as working!
The only thing I would give a negative on this is the limit dial, is a little confusing, you have to look at the manual to understand it. But for the price, I can't really fault the item. Once you figure out how to use it, it's fine.
I wouldn't use this for hardcore treasure hunting, but for casual hunting, I think it works just fine! A little short, but I have no problem using it, and I'm 5'11".
found several items as well as some old coins. These allow us to get out of the house and away from the social media which is an extreme annoyance to me and sure isn't great for them.
