pin pointer feature is the best....after you locate target...push pin pointer feature again and again if needed and it keeps narrowing in the location of the target until its dead on...then excavate using hand held pin pointer for support (one 9v battery)...I bought the one that came as a set and the headphones also (a must have)...the wand is able to be inserted into the ground a few inches in most soil...but you need to turn the dial to where it just stops buzzing and no more to get the most sensitivity....the headphones block out the noise and the unit is very loud and has NO volume control...plus it supposed to save battery life....the detector takes two 9volt square batteries...the detector will show low battery and power off with 6.8 - 7.2 volts still remaining...so I suggest you get a rechargeable battery station or buy 24 packs like I do....The unit defaults to 4bars of sensitivity on power up....I use 3 mostly unless i am looking for deep relics..this reduces overload of ghost signals...or deep digging....i can locate...pinpoint...excavate most targets in 45 seconds with the pin pointer feature on this 3300 model...its the most important feature in my opinion.
The (MD) came very well packed. It was packed inside a box which was inside a larger box. The unit was very easy to assemble. As always, it is very important to read and follow the instructions before using the product it is easy enough to understand.
I have been using this (MD) for a short time now and I am very impressed. It seems to pick up very well and the pinpointing feature comes in very useful. I can locate an object within just a couple of inches (3 inches at the most) of where the (MD) tells me where it is located. I use small survey flags to mark my spots before I start to dig and start my digging just outside the flag post. The pinpointing feature saves on a lot of digging and time, trust me on that one. I also purchased the Garrett Pin-pointer (Garrett Pro-Pointer) to assist me even further, which saves even more time locating your treasure. With the Garrett Pin-pointer, you don't even have to dig a full hole around the area (flag) most of the time. Just bury the head of your spade a couple of inches away from the flag, lift the ground some and put the Garrett Pin-pointer into the area underneath (of course I have to remove the flag 1st as my flag posts are metal) and if the object is not too deep, you can remove it without digging a full hole. I have only used the (MD) in grassy areas and not in the mountains or beaches as of yet.
As for the depth feature on the (MD), I find it very useful, but rarely accurate. On my (MD), the depth usually shows the object deeper than it really is, but I have learned in a short time to adjust for that and can usually figure out about how deep the object is before I start my dig. The (MD) can pick up objects buried deep into the ground (gone as deep as about 10" if not more).
I also like the cancellation feature of the (MD). I can tune out iron or other objects if I wish, which comes in very handy in certain areas.
The (MD) is light weight and easy to use. It seems to be well balanced and is height adjustable, so the tall and short (such as myself) can use the (MD) with comfort. The arm brace is also comfortable and well designed and helps from tiring out your arm for longer periods of use.
I cannot compare this (MD) with others, as I have only used this one, but I believe that this is a well made (MD) and does a great job for the cost. I do not regret my purchase and would definitely recommend it to others.
My 10 year old has found many front yard trinkets. She is excited to really break it in with her grandma.
We ended up buying a rechargeable 9vt kit with 4 batteries.
