Oh. And how could I almost forget to mention the descriptions of building/construction? I don't know exact what drywall is, but we get to hear a lot about its installation..A LOT.
As the plot begins, the major plot strands seem pretty obvious and, sure enough, events duly roll out with lots of building and sex in between.
I liked the book, but if I sound ambivalent, it's because as I turned pages I found myself thinking, "More drywall?" "More lunchtime descriptions?" and finally even "More sex?"
My final summary is:
1. Nice main couple, mature for a KA pairing
2. Sweet romance with some very touching moments.
3. Drawn out plot that felt a bit predictable and could've used some editing.
When I first stumbled upon KA with Breathe, I couldn't believe how much I loved her books. I've read and re-read all 51 books. She was creative, funny, and basically, a kickass breath of fresh air. Lately, her stuff is just rambling with too many plot points. At least this book didn't have the obligatory awful ex-wife/bad mom. I'm really tired of that. Am I looking forward to her next book? Absolutely, but I still think this series needed to end at #5.
KA, I will always love you, but hope you maybe change it up. Bring back your kickass style without the formula of bad grammar and
Deke is s simple man, who lives a simple life. He has no time for women, especially a rich princess. Her mere arrival brings up past feelings and events, that shaped him into the man he is today.
Just spends a good portion of the book breaking down Deke's walls and those things were sturdy. He thought that she was this rich snotty woman, but she proved to him that she was nothing of the sort.
This book was a slow burn that made your heart ache with each chapter. their chemistry was palpable and the steaminess between the two was just wow.
I'll let you read it and judge for yourself, but trust me, you will love this book
Justice Lonesome, daughter of the famous musician Johnny Lonesome, is also a singer/songwriter. One night at a biker bar, she meets a man who inspires her. Only to never see him again. Fast forward seven years, she’s grieving over a loss and decides to find her peace by moving to the mountains. She buys a house in Carnal, Colorado and is there to settle down. The house needs a lot of work, and that’s where Deke comes in.
Deke Hightower is a man I’ve been curious about for several books. Just like Woods, I’ve been waiting for his time to come. I love that he got paired with someone like Justice. At first, he is hesitant to have anything with someone like Jussy. Deke is a man who likes to take to the road as much as he can. He doesn’t plant roots, therefore doesn’t do relationships. But this little gypsy he’s met could be just the girl for him. Justice is used to a life of traveling. I loved the moment Deke realized that just maybe, this could work between them.
Justice has a lot going on with her family and friends. That is where most of the drama of this story lies. I really loved this story, and the times it was on- it was ON. It was fast paced, the connection between Deke and Jus was there and they were amazing together. Then there were times that did seem to drag a bit (hence the 4.5 star rating) but by the end, it really picked up again and KA gave us another amazing epilogue!
If you’re a fan of Kristen Ashley’s and love the original Colorado Mountain books as much as me, I would give this book a go! It’s a great read. KA tells a story unlike anyone else. I can’t get enough of her books! The audio was fantastic as well!
