Racing to unlock the secret of his own identity, amnesiac operative Jason Bourne discovers the deadly truth: he's the government's number one target, a $30 million weapon it no longer trusts. Academy Award winner Matt Damon stars in this super-charged, thrill-a-minute spectacular loaded with "non-stop action!" (Bill Zwecker, FOX-TV)
Freely adapted from Robert Ludlum's 1980 bestseller, The Bourne Identity starts fast and never slows down. The twisting plot revs up in Zurich, where amnesiac CIA assassin Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), with no memory of his name, profession, or recent activities, recruits a penniless German traveler (Run Lola Run's Franka Potente) to assist in solving the puzzle of his missing identity. While his CIA superior (Chris Cooper) dispatches assassins to kill Bourne and thus cover up his failed mission, Bourne exercises his lethal training to leave a trail of bodies from Switzerland to Paris. Director Doug Liman (Go) infuses Ludlum's intricate plotting with a maverick's eye for character detail, matching breathtaking action with the humorous, thrill-seeking chemistry of Damon and Potente. Previously made as a 1988 TV movie starring Richard Chamberlain, The Bourne Identity benefits from the sharp talent of rising stars, offering intelligent, crowd-pleasing excitement from start to finish. --Jeff Shannon

In the end, I was fortunate that I gave this movie a second chance. It's now one of my favorites.
The plot is only related to the Ludlum novel -- the screenplay was morphed into a nicely claustrophobic character story about a small community of people up to no good, and the movie is cast to perfection with a wonderful collection of actors who deliver terrific performances. The director also directed "Swingers" and "Go", and his indy-film background shows through in quite a few scenes where the tension is heightened by the use of handheld cameras and shooting in real locations without a crew.
Damon is just outstanding as an amnesiac with a growing sense of dread about himself and his abilities, and Franka Potente has the presence and intelligence to bring off the character of the girl that helps him at first for money, and then later out of a combination of curiosity, tenacity, and aimlessness (she really doesn't have anything better to do). Chris Cooper, Brian Cox, and Julia Stiles are wonderfully menacing and matter-of-fact as the villians.

Obviously he still loved the movie but compared to something like Avatar which was clearly made to be watched like this, there really was very little benefit in upgrading to 4k with this particular movie
Bit by bit small pieces of his past begin to emerge, he has skills and abilities that sometimes reveal themselves in a reflex (eg, when he is attacked) but he does not know why this is. After tracing a bank account, which was hidden in a small device beneath his skin, he finds that he is Jason Bourne residing in Paris, France and for some reason is the holder of various passports and identities.
Meanwhile the CIA in Langley are aware that Bourne is on the lose, and are anxious to tie up all lose ends by whatever means necessary. Every moment longer he lives he jeopardises the very program he was trained to serve.
Jason is not alone in his quest and is aided by an unsuspecting, cute, German national with visa problems who gets swept along after agreeing to take Jason from Zurich to Paris for $20,000.
Jason must get to the bottom of his identity, his life depends on it, but it wont be easy, he has a few clues, but everywhere he turns people are after him, and he doesn't know why. He has many questions and must face a formidable enemy who is determined to silence him.
I loved this film, right from the very start the story began to unfold and gathered pace as the film went on. I thought the characters were great and the story compelling and gripping. Time flies with this movie as u follow it like a roller coaster twisting and turning all the way to the end. There are some amazing action scenes and a solid plot to this movie, and I feel it's well worth seeing. I'm definitely a big fan
There is the statutory car chase, but rather than switching off till it was finished as normal, I found it exciting - perhaps in part because it mirrors the David and Goliath theme of the picture.
Add to this a clever plot, an excellent performance from Matt Damon and an inspired choice in the German actress Franca Potente and you have something well worth watching.
