I am not a poet nor poetry expert, I like to read poetry occasionally. A friend of mine mentioned this book several times in her PhD dissertation, so I bought it to understand better the "magic spell" of poetry. And I got more than I could expected. It is a very dense book, to be read slowly. It is not a book to learn how to write poems, or about the metrics. It is about what is poetry, what is not, language, prose, images, inspiration, and history. I liked to learn that "landscapes, persons and events are often poetic, they are poetry without being poems". There is also a very interesting appendice "Poetry, Society, State", talking about the problem of state powers in the artistic creation.
