The bench, when in the "flat position," isn't flat. It's concave. Imagine laying on a "V" - it forces you in to a very unnatural and uncomfortable position.
The base of the bench (the part of the bench that sits on the ground, under the butt cushion) is directly in the way of where my feet should go.
My wife is 5' 1'', I'm 6' 2''. We both had the same problem with the discomfort from the bench not being flat. Furthermore, my wife's feet barely touched the floor. I'm not holding this against the bench, I'm just pointing it out so people know that this bench isn't good for short people. It even felt kind of high to me. Another design quirk is the huge 4" gap between the seat back and the seat bottom. When in the flat position, it's very unnerving to have that big of a gap there. The seat bottom is very finicky to adjust from flat to angled - you really have to use both hands in order to make the adjustment but there's only a knob on one side. The seat back cushion has a stitching defect.
The assembly instructions were acceptable, but it was difficult to get all of the screws in to the seat cushions. If you take a risk on this bench, just know that you're not crazy when you try to screw the cushions in and it's nearly impossible due to slight misalignment between the bench's frame and the cushions. Due to the myriad of problems I have encountered, I highly recommend that you try before you buy.
I struggled with the idea of returning it, since I had already unpacked it, and also struggled with whether I should take it some place to have it repaired after paying $189.00 for a product that was supposed to be in perfect condition. Well, I decided to give it a try since I needed the bench, so I went to my tool box, got two adjustable wrench keys and pull on the steel part while holding the other part of the piece, and sitting on the rest of the frame (all this on carpet though) and I worked on it for about 10 minutes (I am a small but strong woman, although not much arm muscles/strength sadly... :(...) so... it finally gave in enough to make the rest of the frame fit in the bottom part, and the rest of the putting the bench together was pretty simple after that. I followed all the instructions, it is easy to put together all by yourself if all the parts are in perfect condition. I am enjoying my new bench now. The Bench is sturdy, and I bought it mainly to work the abs, and the upper arms and it works perfectly for that. Perhaps if I lived in the US I wouldn't gone through the trouble of fixing it, but I am glad it worked out well.
My suggestion for Amazon, is to make sure the products you sell from all your sellers are in good condition.
My suggestion for the customer is to unpack it nicely and make sure all the parts are there in perfect condition, before attempting to put it all together. It is a good product if it is in good condition. I think mine had a factory defect which should have not happened, but all is well now and I am glad I kept it.
