I am sure this was a decent book once, but unfortunately it is hopelessly outdated. While the beginner will still be able to learn something useful (the laws of physics stay the same after all), the lion share of the book describes equipment, which has changed too much in recent years for something that my guess is was mostly written in the late 90's or early 2000's to be of any use today.

I am retired, and love to read. As a matter of fact I'm reading three separate books right now. This "Traditional Bowyer's Encyclopedia" is actually a compilation of many very good articles by various experts in the field. I'm really learning a lot. I haven't touched a long bow in 40 years, but now that I have the time, I'm planning on getting back into target shooting at the local mountain archery range. These articles are bringing me up-to-date quickly! You'll really enjoy this material.

I am curious about possibly starting to bow hunt, or at least get into archery and the range. I found this a great source of info on archery in general and bowhunting. It opens up a window on the various complexities and interactions of the wide variety of elements that impact and ultimately affect arrow flight.

Although this is now an older, and out of print book, I read a copy of a friends and wanted it for reference. This is an excellent book, with great pictures, and how-to direction. I found this copy among the used offerings here on Amazon, at an excellent price. Order was shipped promptly. Book was in excellent condition. I am very happy with this purchase, and the complete fulfillment.

This book gives a good brief over view of archery and bow hunting. It provides a description of the characteristics of arrows, the different kinds of bows, shooting fundamentals and basic bow hunting strategies.
It has sufficient illustrations to communicate the subject and is written so that it is understandable and not with a bunch of technical mumbo jumbo I couldn't understand.

This book is great for highlighting many aspects of archery and providing information that is useful for a beginner and experienced archer. It is a nice text that compiles information that would be useful to have as a reference. There are tuning methods, suggestions for shooting form, tips on how to fix your bow and add accessories. A very solid book with plenty of pictures for any archery fan.

I wasn't expecting much when I ordered the book. I read comments before any purchase and this book had excellent comments. I must say the excellent comments were well deserved. This book is packed with great information. I used recurve bows and wanted to learn modern bow for sports shooting. This book is well worth the money.

Excellent book for learning about hunting with Archery
Reviewed in Canada on April 21, 2009Verified Purchase
I purchased this book to gain some knowledge on bow hunting, equipment and skills needed. Although the book is dated (1997) it focuses on choosing, maintaining and shooting. This book was exactly what I was looking for. This book gave me the tools needed when selecting a bow, and understanding some archery terms. There is also sections on tuning a bow and practicing for bow hunting. It will be a book to hold on to for future reference.
Topic include both Traditional and Compound Bows and some accessories.
If you are interested in getting involved in this sport, this book is a "must have."
