The unicorn has been found. We have a heist that goes off without a hitch! But, where's a story in that? Jeremy Brown shows the growth in storytelling to keep this from being formulaic. Getting the money was easy. Getting away with it, that's the rub here. The book is brilliant in a "Memento" type fashion going back and forth to building the heist and current times while trying to lie low.

I'd say more, but I need to learn 12 notes on the piano. A realistic goal at this stage in my life. Looking forward to the next gem in just a couple of weeks!

Bruder organizes a heist against Romanian gangsters in the farmland of Iowa! It works and it's intense. This is book 2 in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Very well done, lots of action and solid plotting.

Parker's heir

At his site Jeremy Brown lists Stark (aka Westlake) as one of his favorite authors, and his remarkable Parker series was undoubtedly a major influence on Brown's new series. There are major similarities between the two series, and there are major differences, too, which make the Bruder novels distinctive in their own ways. I thought "The Wrench," which I read two weeks ago, was excellent, and I thought "The Box" was superior. In fact, I thought it was even better in many ways than any of the Parker books! (I've read all of them, and my only regret is that Westlake didn't live long enough to complete the last entries.) To say that I look forward to reading "The Wake" would be a gross understatement.

Bruder and his gang steal/heist $14,000,000 from the Romanian mob in middle America. The heist goes rather easily, however the escape had it's hardships. Great read with plenty of action
