However, this book suffers from some flaws that constantly kick the reader out of the mood/story the book is trying to create. There are a lot of errors in this book, from the wrong word used in a sentence (cap instead of cab, not instead of nod), commas that should be present but are not and vice versa (an example is a comma between police and officer), descriptions repeated in a sentence ("He opened it carefully and found a small folded piece of paper folded within it"), and sometimes incorrect references (such as when someone tries the door to the house and the next sentence says the truck was unlocked). These errors give the book the overall feel of a draft, and not a finished book. A simple once-over by someone would have caught a lot of these mistakes, and would have allowed for continued immersion in the story.
Overall I would give the book a 3.5. Great premise, solid pacing, a main character one can identify with, and good atmosphere are the positives of the book, but the mistakes/errors that run throughout the book give this a lower score than it should have received otherwise. Were the author to go back and clean it up, I would give it a solid 5, and I would give his other books a read as well.
I really liked the Boylan house trilogy. If you want to know what it is about read the item synopsis.
It says 'trilogy', however the series is about the same length as a single novel, broken up into three pieces.
I liked the way this book was structured, with the first part being free, which enabled me to read enough of the book to see if it was something I would be interested in reading, as most amazon samples don't have enough content to really give the reader a good enough idea of whether or not they will enjoy the full book.
I felt obligated to review this book because I purchased the second trilogy from the same Author and in hind site I wish I would have read Boylan house again. If you're not sure if you'll like it get the first part for free. Unlike 'Blood Contract' the 2nd and 3rd book in the Boylan House are just as good as the first.
Book 1: The Boylan House
Interesting legend of a haunted house. Being told from the perspective of a man who has had interactions with the entity, once as a child.
Quick read (almost rushed), obviously this is a novella, and I'm glad I got it as a set.
Book 2: Discoveries
As with the first book, it seems rushed along. Like skipping the telling of parts that could've been seriously interesting, but telling the more mundane. Quite a few typos in this second book, some are very obvious and should've been caught.
Book:3 The Deadwood Throne
Didn't even bother with the last "book". I certainly am glad this was free.
My only complaint about Mr. Ripley's style is his breaking a story into several "books". I find it a little confusing and unnecessary.

Not worth what I paid as I was only able to read to the beginning of book 2.
I love the madness in Ripley's mind.Read more
