I was really excited to see this book and I really loved the information that Hillary Tubin presented! She has an expertise in this area that is unbeatable and it reinforced my belief that I had to help my boys with their reading in order for them to flourish around books.
Hillary gives you actionable advise in order to help you understand what you as a parent need to do to give your child guidance and why it is crucial that you begin this journey as soon as possible.
I recomend this book to anyone who is interested in helping their children appreciate books and the wonderful and enchanting world they provide. Don't miss out on this opportunity to give your child a flying start!
Even though this book is primarily designed for parents to help their young sons to develop a reading habit, I have found this book so inspiring, practical, and enlightening for myself, as an adult. I didn’t pay much attention to reading growing up, and I never really understood why it was important – until now!
The author goes to incredible lengths to explain the details of this subject, especially from the mindset perspective. Her passion, dedication, and expertise shine through each page. I loved reading about her experiences as a middle school teacher – she truly understands boys, their mindset, and the reading habit at such a deep level. I cannot believe I could relate to so many examples and stories presented in this book, and I really wish I had such an amazing and dedicated person as my teacher, helping me develop a reading habit while growing up.
Luckily, it’s never too late. I started developing my own reading habit thanks to this book, because it provides not only comprehensive information, but also a collection of empowering tools and techniques to implement this information right away!
If you’re a parent of a 9 – 14 year-old boy and you follow the steps carefully designed and brilliantly presented in this book, you will positively transform your son’s life! Developing a daily reading habit is critical to ensure your son’s future success, now more than ever, in our global, knowledge-based economy!
I HIGHLY recommend this transformational book to parents of young boys, but also to anyone who wants to capitalize on the astounding benefits of reading!
Hillary Tubin's "Boys and Books" talks about how single events in our lives can impact our perceptions on reading and how those ideas can follow us through life. Whether it be seen as a social stigma to be a "nerd" or other influences, such as gender, parental example, punishments, comprehension struggles, there are so many ways a young boy may be turned off of reading for good.
Her book lays out how to make a plan, how to create a reading-friendly environment, and how to set a strong example for a love of reading so your child can have a successful reading experience in his life. A love of reading can inspire better communication, relationship building skills, and many other benefits in later life.
As the grandparent of a 10 year old boy who is constantly pulled in the direction of video and computer games in his free time, I am happy to have these recommendations for creating a strong reading environment for him in our home. I highly recommend this book!
