After watching the movie I can start to understand why it gets all the bad ratings. No wonder!. It was made in 1969. It is unfair to make comparissons with the technology available today. According to the standards available in 1970, this movie is perfectly innocent and family-oriented. People watching this movie in terms of current cinematographic standards is making a wrong and biased judgement. Do you remember Skippy the bush kangaroo, or Daktari or Maya the Elephant, or Swiss Family Robinson? These were movies made around the same time frame and they are all plain, slow pased and non threatening. Oh yes, The boys of lost island is a harmless movie and great for watching with kids and family. Forget about explosions, murder sprees, senseless killings, drive-by shootings, violent accidents, profanity, hatred, foul language (sorry no -F- word or any modern vulgarity whatsover). Also, you won't find zombies, no gore, no spilled guts, no beheadings, no reference to drugs or drug abuse, no alcoholism and alas, NO sex scenes nor nudity. !! If that is what you're looking for, look elswhere. There are thousands of modern gargabe movies available to satisfy your dark instincts. Judge the 'Boys of Lost Island'', for what it is, an entertaining family movie made in the late 60's, uncomplicated, innocent and perhaps, somewhat naive. True Collection item; worth it!

If the NRA made a kids movie this would be it. A group of Australian boys get accidentally set adrift and wind up beached on a beautiful Island. Do they quickly degenerate into primitive chaos ala "Lord of the Flies". Heck No! the difference: firearms! A bunch of 12-14 year old boys left alone with rifles and a plentiful supply of ammo. What could possibly go wrong? Well as it turns out nothing. They quickly organize themselves into a well ordered militia. When some bad guys show up they know just what to do. In between there are long stretches of boring, stilted dialogue as the boys spend weeks exploring the Island wearing the same clothes for weeks on end without ever getting them frayed or dirty. This grainy 70s era gem is perfect for an MST3K party,

If it's for five thru eight year old, maybe?, it could be considered a good family movie. Otherwise don't bother.
