How anyone could possibly read all 700+ pages is a mystery to me. Other than the beginning description of the initial army days, and the ending about the fire fight, every day in-between was basically the same story, over and over and over. Also, too much use of the lingo, i.e., tee tee/boo coo/didi/sky..........This should have been a short story, not a book.

Motor men have a different experience than ground pounders. All have their duty , their friends and their will to survive. Each soldier knows the routine and their job. That makes a unit. This book is worth the read to experience the life.

I wanted to love this book. I did. But I dont. I quit after 136 pages of boo coo, didi, and sky at least 3 times per page. Deployment is repetitive and boredom is almost more dangerous than the enemy. I get that. There was no actual compare and contrast with the earlier soldier, and the limited vocabulary makes for more frustration than any actual learning or even encouraging a deeper thought. Had this been a line for line reproduction, like the older soldier, I would understand the limits, but it's been edited. It was just edited really poorly.

Hated to have it end. Lots of good stuff in there. Glad I found it and took the time to read it!

This is a great read about one tanker's year in Vietnam. It is an engrossing read about what it was like to be a member of a tank crew. First in a regular tank and a short while later in a Sheridan. The Sheridan was designed to be a tank for use by the Airborne Divisions. It is much lighter than the regular tanks. As a three year Army veteran who served before Nam, it has given me a better understanding of what the tanker's lived through on a day-to-day basis. It seems that one of the worst parts was the very poor quality of daily Army chow.

This story needed editing. If every day is "same-day" then don't write about every day the exact same way. We hate that. The glossary might have been better up front, especially for e-book readers. Glad you got out alive though, dude.

The book became monotonous with the same descriptions of the days happenings, the cruddy food, the inept leadership, etc.. I recognize that Nam was a terrible place to be in, our veterans were treated really badly when they returned, and the food might have been deplorable, but; I don't believe that drunken tank commanders and inept mess sergeants were the norm. I just didn't think the book presented a view that was representative of the situation.

Wow! Fascinating day to day detail of war which, apparently, doesn't change much no matter in which century you fight. At first, I was put off by repetitive details, but soon came to realize it gave me even more empathy for the soldier's lot. I know a lot of men who were in Viet Nam as boys; this is the first time I've had the privilege of hearing about it. I read about a book every two days, and this is the first book that has ever compelled me to write a review. Thank you for your story.

Poorly written. The first 300 pages are the same thing over and over again. I think he just wrote one page and then had it copied 300 times.
The idea was good but there was very little from the early period (1870's ) that really compared to the Vietnam era.
All in all a good idea poorly executed.
