It is quite hard to find readers like this available in the US so I wound up ordering one from China. It is a full Android tablet but lacks Google Play. I had no problem side loading the Amazon App Store and some other apps. Since getting it I have used limited apps--primarily running Moon+ Reader. I have drop box running along with it in order to sync page positions with my tablets and phone (plus it gives another way to install books and apps). I also installed Fora Dictionary to work with it. Built in buttons work for page turning. The lighted screen works fine. It covers the entire screen and I can read easily on night on the lowest of several light settings.

Built in apps such as email and web browser work, but it is not the greatest for web browsing due limitations of the ink technology. It does work great for what it is intended for--ebook reading with the option of using your own apps as opposed to the built in apps.

Others have rooted this and installed Google Play. As it now does what I need I'm not sure if I will do this, but it is good to know that the option is available. Adding more will reduce battery time unless aggressive with apps to control this and I'm not sure it is worth the bother. With WiFi kept constantly on so far the battery life is far less than listed by the manufacturer but it uses a standard cable, making it easy to charge with any of my phone chargers. I have been using it for several days, often at night with light on, without having to recharge it yet, making battery life satisfactory regardless of how many days I wind up getting out of it.

Update:
At some point after writing the review I did root it and add Google Play. It was easy to root. Since that time there have also been updates to the operating system.

To be fair, there are only really 2 devices that I am aware of that are capacitive touch screen and have Android 4.x. (This and the Onyx Boox T68. The Onyx is overprices and the touch screen is terrible.

This device does not come with Google Play, but this is not a deal breaker with a lot of people who are able to download another market, root/install it, or side load their favorite apps.

The reading light on this device works well, and I've encountered no bugs as of yet. Some apps will not work that well due to not being able to see the menus (ezpdf reader) and some work fine (Mantano).

OK, it's time I wrote a review for this reader. I have a Kindle which I absolutely love love love. And let's be realistic, if you read multiple books, the hobby can be expensive. The ease of buying from the amazon kindle store is so convenient that going to the library seems so tedious.. (and lazy). Don't judge.

I discovered scribd, which used to offer unlimited reading for top publishers. Something amazon unlimited is having trouble competing with. Looking for a book you actually want to read from a top publisher would be hard to find on amazon unlimited. It's most likely to be on scribd. It's not a complete database, but a little bit better.

Reading on a cellphone drains out your battery and strains my eyes. Thus I looked for android eink readers. I was so happy to find some and saw that boyue had a 5 star rating on amazon. I did my research and it seemed like the best option at the time.

OK, the truth about the boyue, in regards to the light settings, there are two options. You can turn it off, OR it can blind you. It's either one or the other. So imagine you're in a dark room with blinding lights. It's so awesome. (please detect sarcasm).

Kindle has amazing battery life, whether wifi is turned on or off. Boyue could last three days max, even on airplane mode and without usage. Also, the casing peels off.

This doesn't have a store, so it can get difficult to actually get apps on it. However, when I was able to get the scribd app on it, download my first book, WOW. The book was so sharp. (please detect sarcasm again). The truth is, it's pretty blurred.

Compared to the kindle (take note, I have the first gen of kindle paperwhite and that thing is ancient but still awesome), the kindle totally blows this boyue out of the water.

AMAZON, PLEASE MAKE AN ANDROID KINDLE. OR SOMETHING WHERE I CAN GET A SCRIBD AND WATTPAD APP ON IT. PLEAAAAAAAAASE!!
