Boyz N the Hood is the critically acclaimed story of three friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles neighborhood, and of street life where friendship, pain, danger and love combine to form reality. "The Hood" is a place where drive-by shootings and unemployment are rampant. But it is also a place where harmony coexists with adversity, especially for three young men growing up there: Doughboy (Ice Cube), an unambitious drug dealer; his brother Ricky (Morris Chestnut), a college-bound teenage father; and Ricky's best friend Tre (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), who aspires to a brighter future beyond "The Hood." In a world where a trip to the store can end in death, the friends have diverse reactions to their bleak surroundings. Tre's resolve is strengthened by a strong father (Larry Fishburne) who keeps him on the right track. But the lessons Tre learns are put to the ultimate test when tragedy strikes close to home, and violence seems like the only recourse.

On top of the powerful message of the film, there’s an all-star cast headlined by Lawrence Fishburne, Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr., Morris Chestnut, and others. Most notable African American actors today were in this movie. That is why the message has such power because they got the right actors and put them in the right places. Boyz N the Hood was revolutionary for the time and I don’t think the film world has seen anything like it since.
The picture is very clear, although film-like with a lot of pop, but it does have that slight orange look that a lot of films from the era have, but you hardly notice it. The sound is great and this disc is all-around flawless. What I like are the extras! Of course they have the music video "Growing Up in the Hood" by MC Eight, who I thought was one of the better west coast rapper with jherri curls! It is good to see that video again.
There are also actor auditions which I loved! They had the Ice Cube audition which I see how he got the role besides his fame. He did a very good job. Morris Chestnut must have gotten the role based on looks alone since he did not impress me at all! Angela Bassett is a TRUE actress in case you did not know! Just in an audition she just brought her character to life! I get impress with people who really get deep into their craft!
Go get this disc as the price is right!
