Brain Age 2 has many interesting and challenging games, although some can be hard, especially for very young kids.
Brain Age starts out by calculating your brain age through a series of tests, one of which is Rock, Paper, Scissors but it adds a twist. It asks you to win or lose which can make it quite challenging if you're not concentrating. There are other tests to test your brain age as well which are non-verbal like pick the biggest number on a screen full of numbers, repeatedly subtracting a smaller number from a bigger number, memorizing number placement in an equation to write in the total. After the testing your brain age is calculated - closer to 20 is better.
You can then try the daily activities to improve your brain age. Some are easy and others quite hard. Here is a list of some:
-Word Scramble where you have to unscramble letters to make a word, medium difficulty
- Change maker, giving back change from a total, easy
- Memory Sprint, keeping track of how many runners passed a runner, medium difficulty
- Piano Player, playing notes on a simulated keyboard with the stylus, easy
- Sign finder, you get a simple equation and have to determine what sign goes in between, easy but you need to be quick
- Word Blend, 2-4 words are spoken together by different voices and you have to write them down, hard - this game is ok till there are only 2 voices speaking but with 4 voices it's almost impossible to figure out what they're saying
- Calendar count - You're asked questions like "What will be the day 3 days before 5 days from now?"
There are some other games that get unlocked as you keep playing. However, I don't play daily and each time I pick it up after a gap I seem to be stuck at the same level I was the last time so I have not been able to unlock any more games.
I've also played Big Brain Academy and it is a little less challenging, a little more diverse and colorful and therefore more fun than this game. I like Brain Age 2 but sometimes because of the "strict" instructor who chides you when you've been remiss, black and white colors and games that require good concentration it seems more like work than just plain fun. So I don't play it very often.
Overall it really tests your brain with interesting activities and I rank it highly as one of the best brain games available on the DS.

What is Brain Age? Brain Age acts like a treadmill for the mind! Brain Age 2: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for Nintendo DS is a fun, rewarding game that helps you flex your mental muscles with quick activities that help keep your brain in shape. Brain Age is inspired by the research of Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, a prominent Japanese neuroscientist. His studies evaluated the impact of performing certain reading and mathematic exercises to help stimulate the brain. On your first day of exercise, you will take a series of tests and get a score that determines how old your brain is. This number is called your DS Brain Age. Perform daily exercises just minutes a day over weeks and months to get better at the exercises and lower your DS Brain Age!
Why is brain training good for you? We all know as we grow older our bodies change and it becomes important to regularly exercise to maintain health and fitness. Our brain is no different. That's where Brain Age comes in. Dr. Elizabeth Zelinski, dean and executive director of University of Southern Californias Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, says games like Brain Age can help keep older generations of Americans minds active. "Americans can do a great deal to maintain and even improve their mental abilities," Zelinski explains. "Aging is about taking on new challenges for our minds. Nintendos Brain Age is a great way to do that."
How does Brain Age work? The Nintendo DS Touch Screen lets you write your answers with a stylus, just as though you were writing on paper. Plus, the Nintendo DS's voice input identifies particular words you'll speak during games like the Stroop Test. Brain Age tracks your progression through each exercise with easy-to-read line charts. Use Brain Age each day to open new exercises to test your ability. Brain Age includes a fun calculation competition for friends and familyit's a snap to download this minigame to as many as 15 DS systems using only one Brain Age 2 game card! Challenge yourself and find ways to stay sharp. With the simplicity of the Nintendo DS, and Brain Age's challenging and rewarding exercises, baby boomers and test-prepping kids alike can stimulate their brains!

VIRUS BUSTER unlocks automatically after a few days of stamped games. I really don't know exactly how many are required. I guess around 20 or 30 days of play. However, there is a way to access it manually and immediately after the first stamp of the first day. On the Training section, go to the bottom of the list and tap on the last appearance with ???. You need to have completed at least one of the exercises and obtained the daily stamp for Virus Buster to open here.
To this day, my highest Virus Buster score is 1235 on the Hard mode. I posted three pictures related to this score on the front page of this product. It is not the best out there. Many have reached 4000+ points playing also on the Hard level.
As for the other games, the ones for training your mind, my favorites are Memory Sprint, Change Maker, Piano Player, Word Scramble and Calendar Count.
A NOTE OF CAUTION HERE: Anything in an excessive dose is harmful. Therefore, if you get addicted to VIRUS BUSTER set a limit to your play time. Too much of a good thing is not a good thing. I've read that some people have exceeded themselves with video games to the point of falling into a seizure. Just be careful if you get addicted to it, and I am not joking.
If you have a Nintendo DS Lite, you can play the original version of Virus Buster in a Game Boy Advance (GBA)format. The game is called "Dr. Mario".

VIRUS BUSTER is a bonus game in this daily training program and it is my favorite. It is supposed to be just for relaxation, but I find it extremely stimulating. Trying to bust those viruses is not a lay-back situation. It looks like a slow game, but the continual fall of "pills" (sometimes in batches of three) in the small space provided, requires quick observation and fast action. I play it on hard mode. It is less crowded on the easy and normal modes.

Brain Age 2 is very much like Brain Age 1--it features the same long-winded floating head, the same music, the same format--the only thing that's changed is the specific exercises, but that's good enough for me! If you liked the original but have played it to exhaustion, then here's a way to refresh your supply of puzzles and tests.
Pros: The games are more varied, now including a musical one, among others. They're also more challenging--on the first one, I'd reached age 20 in about a week. With this one, I'm still hovering around 26 after a month and a half. This gives it longer play value. They've also introduced a tetris-like mini game that's a nice diversion. The handwriting recognition seems to be better, though it's still not perfect.
Cons: Handwriting recognition glitches still lead to the occasional frustration of something getting marked wrong that really isn't. It still has limited replay value, since once you've unlocked all the training modes and reached a certain score on them, you tend to lose interest. And Dr. Whats-his-name still talks too much. Basically it has all the same flaws as the first one did.
Overall, it's still a great game, a much-needed sequel to the original. Don't expect anything new or original when you buy this, because it really is VERY much like the first one, but if you're just itching for some new training modes, this is for you!

I love this game. It really does train your brain - at first I was in my 50's and now im 30 (im actually 20). My boyfriend has always struggled with maths and wasn't able to do the "correct change" game but now he can actually do it in a decent time which of course is helpful for jobs involving customer service. I HIGHLY recommend this for children. Also, it has Sudoku *thumbs up*

Keeps the brain fresh (and has Sudoku!)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 1, 2014Verified Purchase
It became a habit of mine training my brain for common problem solving and develop more speed while doing such tasks. Very little games do develop your brain in an meaningful way, but this one is probably the most known between Nintendo DS/3DS owners.
The game interface is very simple, with a restrict selection of mini-games included, so don't expect graphics or complex soundtracks here, but for its purpose, it's one of the best around (that doesn't include monthly subscriptions, to say the least). The mini-games are creative and you receive some feedback after playing, with ways to develop your skills by yourself with daily activities (outside playing the game, of course), keeping track of your best marks and even space for up to 4 people training on the same cartridge. Also, if you just want to pass some time, it has sudoku and plenty of tips for beginners, as well as plenty of games available in all difficulties.
The downsides of this is that it only trains your pre-frontal cortex, which means other abilities are left aside (like attention monitoring and logical analysing). Also, it seems the "brain age check" always put your "brain age" higher than your actual age, which is kind of frustrating.
Overall, it's a good game. Just don't expect much of it.

This really works

Having used the original `Brain Training', my sole reason for getting a DS, and being very impressed by it I decided to get this one too to add a bit of variety.
It is good and well worth the money. It compares pretty well to the original but, I think, is a bit harder and a bit more serious.
If you liked the original you will definitely like this one.
My work involves a lot of problem solving and I really do believe that I perform better at work and in other areas when I am doing regular brain training. This is purely subjective, of course, but I feel that this really works.
It's not as much fun as `Big Brain Academy' to which my whole family is addicted, but I think that it probably does you more good.

Great!

I bought this prior to a family holiday to France. Not having any previous experience of Brain Training, I decided to go for this version rather than the original after reading other reviews, and what a joy it was. I kept the game hidden until we boarded the ferry. When I got it out, I was expecting cries of 'oh no! Not brain training - why did you get that mum??' BUT instead all were delighted, and the whole family, young and old, played it every single day of our trip, and indeed fighted over who's turn it was. I highly recommend this game if you are planning a long journey, or just want to provide your family with some educational entainment that everyone can enjoy that doesnt involve the telly.

Perhaps I expect too much but the inability of my Nintendo DS to recognise my voice in the first section entitled finding your brain age was frustrating. The lack of an alternative for finding your brain age such as using the stylus with the touch screen is a massive oversight rendering this particular section of the programme redundant. You cannot avoid going through the repetition of the instructions either. All in all one of the worst things I have ever purchased. I can only advise would be purchasers to save their money and look elsewhere.
