Excellent! I thought I knew a goodly amount regarding healthy lifestyle choices and the impact poor choices have - but I was wrong! Dr. Arden's book gave clear, new information for a lay person about the brain/neuroscience and how/why different choices in diet, exercise, learning activities will slow down aging. Highly recommend this book for anyone who is aging themselves (!) or who has more elderly parents.

As a physician who has jumped with both feet onto the bandwagon of "lifestyle medicine," I was delighted to read this book and discover that Dr. Arden's recommendations for supporting and maximizing brain function include the same important nutrition and lifestyle factors that are crucial to optimizing overall health. I enjoyed the explanations of how and why in Part One, and especially liked Part Two, which lays out the most important categories of healthy brain behaviors, in easy-to-understand format and with plenty of interesting real-life examples. Not only did I reaffirm my own understanding of how to provide the best environments for the brain to thrive on, but I also learned additional important tips and information to apply to my own life and to my healthcare practice going forward.

One of my Lifestyle Medicine clients recently illustrated the power of Dr. Arden's simple yet persuasive writing: She'd bought and read his book (on my recommendation), got to the part about alcohol and the brain, and shortly thereafter told me "I think I'll just quit drinking; it's not really good for me OR for my brain!" (she's 80 years old and is starting to take important steps toward cleaning up her diet and lifestyle to promote greater functionality and vitality).

I love this book and refer to it often; highly recommended for anyone wanting solid and specific—and do-able— guidelines for protecting one of our most important assets: our brains.

Having attended a Dr Arden seminar, I was excited about reading his lastest book. This book is a terrific and easy to read introduction to the neuroscience that can be used in everyday life. I have started to implement some of Dr Arden's ideas from his seminar and this book provides additional steps, rational and easy to implement ideas. He describe in an easy to understand format about the five basic factors people can use, daily, to enhance their life and longetivity of brain functioning. Diet, exercise, education, social activiities and sleep are all essential elements. Get the book, go to his seminars or his talks if you have a chance, you will not be disappointed. Having met him personally at a seminar, he is a very bright and sharp clinician and a very gentle and kind human being.

Clearly written, highly relevant information backed up by current research. A VERY HELPFUL BOOK whether you're already well or in need of improvement. I believe it is great for anyone, as well as for counsellors who can use the guide for themselves and help spread the word.

This book makes a compelling list of points for your wellness - make sure you read it all. You could skim the parts about specific brain components if that type of text does not interest you - you can get the essence from understanding everything else which is an easy read.

John Arden has done the hard work of gleaning the most important information from the latest neuroscientific research and has written a no-nonsense, approachable guide to brain health that is accessible for everyone. Incorporating John Arden's recommendations (especially SEEDS) into the treatment plan for each of my clients has been helpful no matter what the presenting issue or stage of development. John's work is a game changer. Highly recommended.

This book is fantastic and it is the book I wish I'd written. Dr. Arden has done his homework and includes all of the current research on keeping your brain healthy. His writing style is engaging and clear. I will be recommending this book to all of my patients!

The book gives an in depth look at why five key lifestyle changes should be adapted. I enjoyed learning & reading about the science behind what happens to the brain if or if not practiced. I would recommend this only to professionals because as a casual read it may be boring, but as a fitness professionals these are all things that I personally already knew.
