The Brainwavz AP001 is a ultra portable headphone amplifier that is designed to help deliver more power to your headphones, earphones or other portable speakers than your standard iPod, iPhone, Smartphone or MP3 player. Using a OP Amp the AP001 is able to deliver powerful audio amplification and bass enhancement, without much coloring or distortion to the original audio signal.
The AP001 was designed with portability in mind, its light weight 15.5g body houses a 120mAh battery that will also for over 12 hours of continuous use. There are no on and off switches, the smart circuitry knows when a audio signal is present to automatically turn on and turn off when no signal is present. The AP001 is also designed with two line out which can deliver equal power output to two headphone, earphone or speakers at the same time.
Using this portable headphone amplifier will help enhance the performance of almost any headphone or earphone.

As I said there are no buttons on this amp, it automatically powers on and off in response to music. When it is on there is a blue light in the middle and when it is plugged in and charging (with a basic micro usb) there is an orange light on that shuts off when it is finished charging. This little guy has a fairly long battery life and about 2 hours of charging gives it around 10 hours of music playing. It's well built I haven't noticed any scratches or damage to it despite a fair amount of use thus far. If I had one improvement I would add a little slot onto the amp or a clip on the back so that it can either be hung or clipped to something.
The cable that comes with this is TERRIBLE. I believe I received a defective one....if not they are very poorly and cheaply made. I am still waiting to hopefully receive a replacement from MP4NATION though I have not heard back from them yet and will be back to raise or lower the star rating depending on whether or not I hear back from them. The cable sends very loud static though the amp and headphones whenever it is touched or moved and makes the amp unusable with the included cable so I have been using my own.
As stated this is a one feature amp, there is no neutral or mid boost setting. It also does not come with any instructions at all so that should be a sign of how basic the amp is. Just a plug in and listen. I greatly enjoy this amp and the simplicity of it and I love the something extra it adds to certain headphones.
UPDATE*** Okay so I returned this amp awhile ago for a whole new replacement and the cable that came with the replacement was equally as bad so the cable is just very cheaply made. I splurged on a short cardas cable found here CARDAS HPI Audiophile Interconnect Cable Adapter Male 1/8" 3.5mm TRS Mini-Plug that can be used with any amp and the cable fixed all problems with static, any distortion etc. Overall I give the amp 3.5/5 because the cable really needs to be changed.
Then i press the button :-D , and after a few days the package arrived with no problems, i must to say that this item it is not for people who listen music at low levels, this little BEAST is awesome, i use it with my Moto G 2 Gen, with my 250 usd laptop and with mi rMBP Late 2013, and the amplifier works PERFECT! with all of them! i have no complains about it.
It is a really good investment.
I do have some complains about it:
It came with some marks on the back as if it has some wear. I would like to think that the case wasn't handled with care during manufacturing rather than thinking I got a used product. This issue was previously reported in a youtube review and thought that it could have been an isolated case. Turns out it isn't.
The other thing is that it didn't come with instructions and during the first use an orange LED turned on indicating that it was being charged, but on the second try the LED didn't turn on and I was afraid that the charging wasn't working anymore. I asked the seller about this and I didn't get the answer I was expecting. After a whole day of use I found out that the LED not turning means that the device has finished charging.
The wire that comes with the unit to plug it to the audio source is malfunctioning and will have to get a new one.
Despite these issues I would still recommend it but be aware that you might have to equalize the audio to achieve the desired results.
I didn’t encounter any “white noise” or other problems as they are described by other customers and I tried it on different appliances. The unit turns on automatically when you plug headphones in and remains turned on until you remove them, even if there is no sound passes through the amplifier (it eliminates turn on popup sound).
Before purchasing this amp you need to consider two things:
1. This is an electronic devise which is highly sensitive to electromagnetic radiation. It means that you will want to keep it away from your mobile phone, otherwise you will hear the interference noises in areas with poor reception and when you get phone calls.
2. The extension cable is very short and of poor quality. So the first thing you should do is to buy a good quality and slightly longer cable. Doing so will help you to eliminate the first problem.
In my opinion the developers of this product just didn’t take the first issue into their consideration.
All in all, I highly recommend this amplifier, but with different extension cable, as it is small, lightweight and enhances the sound quality.
