Created by specialists in early childhood education, this Brainy Baby presentation encourages cognitive development by capitalizing on babies' and toddlers' fascination with farm animals and the sounds they make. Baby Animals features quick-paced, real-life photography of young children interacting with animals intermixed with brief animation and more lengthy informational segments about animals in six categories: Horns, Hooves, and Hides; Fins and Flippers; Furry Faces; Beautiful Bugs; Wonderful Wings; and Unusual Animals. Close-up photography of individual animals abounds, and brief descriptions of each animal's most striking feature and its function answer questions like "why are a flamingo's feathers pink?" Friendly voices and upbeat music accompany the onscreen action. Supplemental DVD features include a textual parent's guide, a storybook with onscreen words and pictures, a quiz about animal habitats, a music video sing-along of "Old MacDonald," baby bloopers, previews of other Brainy Baby productions, DVD-ROM access to the Brainy Baby Web site, and a printable coloring book. I decided to order a copy of this DVD when my son was still under a year. It was definitely too advanced for him then, but now at 20 months this is BY FAR his favorite movie. He watches most of the DVD which includes little kids/babies in the intro, Old MacDonalds Farm, an ABC of animals, and sections on different kinds of animal (furry faced animals, animals with fins and flippers, etc. etc.). He has even started answering some of the questions (what animal makes this sound, etc.)--so it's a bit more interactive for him.

This is a great DVD to add when your child is getting too old for the Baby Einstein videos because it offers a lot more information. For example, it gives solid information such as "Did you know a cow has 4 stomachs?" and goes over the names of baby animals and groups of animals.

This definitely gets 5 stars from my son (and me) these days!!

This video is great in that it shows a very wide veriety of animals. However its hard for kids to pick out the actual name of each animal from the rest of the information they give on each one. I would prefer if they show the cow, say COW and then go on to tell about it. But they show a cow and go right into their speech about cows. My son didn't like it at first, but now that he's learned his animals from books, he really likes to watch it and point out all the different animals he knows.

I learn something new everytime I watch it with my 2 years old son. It covers interesting information about each animal, like cows having 4 stomachs or penguins being birds that cannot fly.. etc And besides the traditional groupings of house animals, animals in the water, etc.. it covers more interesting groupings, like " animals with furry faces, animals with stripes and dots, unusual animals, the animal alphabet..etc" It is simply the best and caters to all ages.

I bought this DVD for my 14th month old daughter who loves animals. It was worth every penny as she loves it and I enjoyed watching it myself. I really like how they talk though the movie so it is teaching them the names of animals while they watch. It is very education and the music is great. If you are a parent buy this DVD you will not regret it.

My 17-month old son is bored with all the Baby Einstein videos, but he is delighted with this. It's a good mix of animals he recognizes and new or exotic animals. He especially likes the "fins and flippers." I love the real animals and the music is great too. SOME DVDs are ok for infants and toddlers, but bore older preschoolers. This one's good for kids 3-5 too, so big sisters and brothers won't mind sharing the TV as much!

1st, if you are INSISTANT that this is the video you want, go to Toys R Us. They are $6.00.
I usually only get Baby Einstein, but thought I'd try the Brainy Baby videos. They will soon be coasters. I was SO disappointed with the quality of them! They are soooo disjointed and "messy". My daughter LOVES the Baby Einstien movies but I thought I'd try these hoping maybe they were as calm and fun with the same amount of music. WOW. Not even close. They are like a wild kids party. Not really where I want my daughter playing. She lost interest in the 1st two minutes anyway. The music is actually a little painful to listen to. The costume animals, one's a teddy, not too bad, the other a dinosaur with hip-hop body language. A litte Barny-ish.
Needless to say, I'm going back to Baby Einstein. No question about it.
