Nik and Aimee meet in the past, during a masquerade ball and then meet again in the present when Nik rescues her from Caleb, a psychotic and powerful Senator. There is instant attraction between Nik and Aimee, neither of them understanding why they are drawn to each other (hint, hint**it has something to do with that ball all those years ago**) The reader gets to watch the main characters sort through their emotions, all the while dealing with the psychotic machinations of Caleb.
Aimee is a well developed female lead who is bold, capable and self sufficient. I LOVE strong female characters! Nik is an Alpha male lead, but also carries his flaws well, making him believable and all the more attractive. I was able to become attached to these characters because they felt real to me.
This novel did have scenes of BDSM and sexual torture (not involving the main couple) and lots of graphic sex. In fact, this is the one reason I did not give this a five star review. I love me some erotic sex in novels, but there was so much sex that I found myself skimming at parts. And my problem with it stemmed from the fact they spent so much time in the beginning saying how they were not going to have sex, how they were going to stay away from each other, then some switch flipped and it was just sex, sex, sex, the story took a back seat to the sex.
However, don't misunderstand my comment as negative. I don't want to leave the wrong impression....Lora Ann writes a mean, steamy, sexy and erotic scene. Nik and Aimee are a hot ticket. I liked the story, so I kept going, and I'm keeping with the trilogy. I want to see what comes next!...I'm especially interested in E's story, because that is more along my interests.
Bottom line....INTENSE read....HOT, STEAMY SEX...GREAT CHARACTERS...HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Desperate to make ends meet, Aimee agrees to a one night affair, providing beautiful companionship as an escort. With the promise of complete anonimity thanks to a gorgeous gown and mask, she never expected the wildest chance encounter that only exists in dreams! Whisked quite literally off her stilletos, Aimee and the masked lothario dont even exchange names before consuming each other. As quickly as she came, he was gone. No names. No faces. Not enough!
Five years goes by and yet another chance encounter brings Nik and Aimee face to face. Will the one night of passion that still haunts them both be enough to see through the masks they are still wearing? Can their one electric encounter turn a spark into an inferno?
Senator Caleb Reynolds has it all. Money, power, influence and and insatible thirst for pure evil. Caleb takes what he wants, when he wants, and quite literally burns up everything in his way. His rage and detest of Nikko Strand knows no limit and he will stop at nothing to ruin him. Does poitical office buy him freedom to do as he pleases or will the Strand brothers finally find out what truly lies beneath his carefully constructed fascade?
Full of hairpin turns and nailbiting angst, Branded has so much more to it than just your average HEA. This erotic thriller will have readers begging for more!!! Nikko Strand is the man we've been waiting for. Trouble is, can he allow himself to be what everyone else in his life knows he can be? Do soul mates really exist? Is love powerful enough to transcend the masks we wear every day and heal us to no longer need them?
Lora Ann's Branded moves at a good pace with very little downtime. The characters are strong in their own right and unstoppable together. The writing is solid. I would definitely recommend this book.
Branded introduces us to the two main characters, Aimee, a high-class call girl looking to begin managing a hotel and Nik, a Nordic hunk who has shut himself off emotionally since his first wife's death 15 years before. Aimee has caught the attention of a US Senator with no scruples who is trying to rope her into marrying him. It is the last thing Aimee wants, and when the senator tries to hurt her, Nik comes upon the scene and rescues her. It turns out Nik and the senator have bad history together and Nik realizes the only way to save Aimee is to marry her. But Aimee does not want to be saved, nor does she want to be locked into a loveless marriage to Nik, even though they have chemistry.
I could not put the book down until I finished it. I am now looking forward to reading about Even, the next book in the Strand Brothers series.
