I love this album! I went to the concert several years ago, and the album remains one of my favorites. Toots plays the harmonica as competently as ever, and the Brasilian musicians who join him on this album are all accomplished in their field. The songs are melodic and mellow, with the signature Brasilian beat and beautiful Portuguese lyrics.

Toots Thielemans has been the leading harmonica player in Jazz music for over 50 years. With this CD, he explores Brazilian Jazz and makes it sound like it was created just for him. On this recording he has gathered some outstanding Brazilian Jazz musicians and let them do their thing while he adds his always splendid harmonica playing to the project. With the exception of his signature piece "Bluesette", all of the songs are Brazilian Jazz pieces and they are arranged beautifully.
If you are a fan of Brazilian Jazz I think that this recording will surprise and delight you. If you're a Toots fan, you won't be surprised, just delighted.

Bluesette, no other rendition can beat this version - in my opinion. Many other tracks were very very good. One track impressed me very much sounded like a paloma blanca soaring over a white mission tower in a hot summer day, made me think of leisure, freedom, tranquility, and joy.
Never thought that harmonic can make wonderful music like this album did.

This is one of those albums that deserves a higher rating than five stars. It is one of the finest bossa nova/Brazilian albums ever recorded, and among the best of all jazz albums. The musicianship and raw, primitive vocals are splendid, and Toots Thielemans is at his finest complementing his colleagues at times and soaring on his own at others. "The Brasil Project 1 & 2" are two of my ten "desert island" albums and they're the most-played songs on my iPod. If you want to hear how great this music really is, take both albums along next time you're on a long airplane flight, plug in your earbuds, tilt the seat back, close your eyes, and listen to every note. It's almost a religious experience. :-)

This is a fantastic album putting together some of the best Brazilian composers since Tom Jobim with the Great Toots on Harmonica, the only great composer he missed from Brazil? Joáo Donato and that is unforgivable. Other than that, it is a Must-Have Collection.

Rather like Ellington's "Jazz Party", this album has collected the right people who could talk to each other productively. Mostly Brazilian musicians, including some luminaries such as Milton Nascimento, assemble here, highlighted in different tracks, in small ensemble. They get together in a crowd in the last track. Some vocals, some instrumental soloing, with Toots taking the central place, of course.

The late Toot's harmonica, which has started a school in Europe, though not here in America, unfortunately, is very close to ideal for expressing the "saudade" that inhabits most good bossa nova. And don't worry, it's bossa nova, not any of the later emanations of samba or re-workings of American pop. Who cares if only foreigners liked it?

I've been having this album for several years and love it. If you like the music of Brazil, this album features several artists from there. Toots is an octogenarian who plays exquisite harmonica. Combined with the other artists, the fabulous sounds of Brazil (including the wonderful Portugese language), make this a great album with a somewhat mellow quality.

If you like Toots Thielemans this a CD you won't tire of.
Toots has long been the master on the harp.
He truly elevates this instrument from one of a novelty type to one of serious distinction.
It is an exemplary recording of Brazilian Jazz, laid back easy listening at it's best.
A must for every serious collector.
