Then it died. Four months after we got it. Four months! That's nothing! We were sad, but figured it could be replaced under warranty. And it can. If you have about ten hours to devote to the process.
First you'll have to call Braun and describe your problem (ours just wouldn't brew - it would turn on, but then nothing). Then they'll ask for some evidence of the problem and your proof of purchase. They'll want you to email these things (in this case, a screen grab from Amazon and a video of the inaction), and then FOLLOW UP with a phone call. I thought the follow up was weird, but I did it. A case number was assigned, and we were on our way.
Next they'll ask you for some further proof that you're not trying to scam them out of a coffee maker - cut the cord, take a picture of the cordless coffee maker, and send it back to them. I did this. Then I waited. Nothing. Finally I called: they must not understand how email works. EVERY email must be followed up with a phone call. Don't forget this step! If you send the email they request, they won't find it until you get someone on the phone to check for it.
Great. We have proof that (1) the machine was purchased (2) the machine is broken and (3) the machine is thoroughly disabled. We will process a replacement for you.
The replacement will take "10-14 business days" once the replacement department acknowledges they are going to send you a replacement. They will acknowledge it once they get the email from customer service. What's that? You thought Braun would at minimum check their internal emails? No. FOLLOW UP on that email that YOU DID NOT send, too.
An acknowledgement email will be sent to you. It will say they have "processed the replacement" for you. In yet another follow up call, you will be told this does under no circumstances mean they have shipped a replacement to you. It means they have processed it. What does that mean? Nobody knows.
When you ask for a tracking number you will be told you will have to follow up for that. When? Nobody knows. Maybe give it a few days. It won't be emailed to you - you will need to call for it. AGAIN.
All in all, you should have it in 10-14 business days.
It's pretty incredible considering prime shipping got it to you in two originally.
In the end, I'd just ask for a refund and purchase a new one on Amazon if you really want one. For one thing, your warranty won't be extended past your original purchase date anyway. RIDICULOUS, BRAUN. Get it together.
I'm the kind of guy who measures his coffee consumption in pots, not cups. And I like my coffee HOT. And I hate carafes that dribble. I've used cheap $14 pots and those that cost more than $100, and they all seem to have pros & cons. This unit has many more pros than cons.
Reason for my review: My Bunn recently gave up the ghost (it saw a LOT of use), so I've been using the backup Gevalia machine my wife keeps in the pantry. The Bunn had no bells or whistles (no timer, no adjustable heat, no auto-off, etc), but made a fast pot. I happened to like that it didn't have an auto-off, as I'll get wrapped up in a task and come back in three hours expecting the coffee to be hot (I'm ex-Navy, I don't care if the coffee is well-cooked). The Gevalia I've been using has a 2-hour auto-off, which, frankly, irritates me. This Braun also has an auto-off, but you can adjust it -- from five minutes to five hours! (I use the five-hour option).
Another feature I enjoy is the temp adjustment. I love my coffee to be hot, and this machine allows me to set the warming plate to hot! (there are three settings.) This machine has about the same footprint as the Gevalia, but it's MUCH easier to fill without spilling H20 as you do it. The opening where you add water is much wider. Also, there are tiered "steps" in the water reservoir to show you how much water you've added to get the right number of cups.
Another big like is the brew speed. I get a 12-cup pot in exactly 10 minutes, but of course, if I don't want to wait, the machine lets you sneak a cup without dripping.
Another plus is the size of the clock. Really big numbers!!
Figuring out the mechanics takes a bit of study. You pretty much need to read the instructions, at least I needed to, because I didn't find things to be intuitive. Once you understand how the machine is wired, it's easy to use, but like I said, it's not exactly intuitive.
Overall, for the past few weeks that I've been using this machine, I've been pleased as punch. I'm giving it 4.5 stars (mainly because the electronics require a bit of study before you can figure them out), but I love the fast brew, the fact that I can set a 5-hour auto-turn off, the fact that I can adjust the temp setting of the heat plate, and that I have a full 12-Cup pot ready to go in just 10 minutes. That's about 40% faster than the Gevalia, and almost as fast as the Bunn -- but I get a whole lot more control with this Braun.
Bottom line, if you're looking for a well-designed, well-made machine that gives you plenty of controls AND a quick, HOT brew, I'm thinking this will serve you well.
***UPDATE (Jan 20, 2019)*** I've been using this machine for four months now and I remain as pleased a punch. This is the best coffee maker I've ever had, and I find myself recommending it to just about everyone who comes over to visit. Only one thing you might want to be aware of when making coffee with this machine: When you make a pot, you add the coffee & water, then press the "on" button followed by the "brew" button. And, if you want the machine to stay on for your chosen time (mine is 5 hours), you then press "auto off." (It will brew and stay on for five hours.) Because I make several pots per day, those buttons get pressed a lot. But after only four months, the words on those buttons are starting to wear off. Apparently the lettering is only on the surface, not engraved in the plastic. To stop the wear, I am now careful to press these buttons *under* the lettering. If you do this from the start, you won't have a problem with letters wearing off. AND, you will have a *great* coffee maker. :-)
I cleaned the unit first by running 12cups of water through twice. Had the temp on medium but the water was hot. 12 cups on bold flavor took approximately 10 minutes. I’ll write more on self cleaning after I use the feature. I’m actually excited to wake up at 0400 and have my coffee waiting on me and not burned after 15 minutes.
I’ll update as time goes by but have no regrets right now
UPDATE: (November 7, 2019)
Had this machine for about a year. Then it just stopped working. Got in touch with Braun support. Said they would do nothing except offer to sell me the same model for more than the Amazon price. Bad product, bad company.

1.The display on this unit is easily the best I've seen on a coffee machine. Large, easy to read, and viewing angles don't seem to be a problem either.
2. Everything I've encountered on this unit feels solid and well built. Parts line up precisely and the stainless body looks and feels solid. Little things like the way there is no side to side play in the top lid when you open and close it. Basket has a snaps firmly into place when inserting it after cleaning. I've only had this unit for a few weeks but it just feels like it's going to last.
3. Intuitive programming and function. I firmly believe that you should not have to pull out a manual to set the time or program your coffee machine. Thankfully, this one is a dream to use. Every function has its own button with its own indicator light so that all the information is always there at a glance. This is far better than some units that require toggling between different modes to get to what you want.
4. Hot plate is adjustable in terms of temperature AND duration. I like to keep my coffee warm for longer than the default 2 hours most units cut off at. This one goes up to 5 hours in 15 minute increments.
5. You can easily fill the water reservoir from the front. This may not sound like a big deal but after owning several which require filling from the side, this is a welcome feature. Although the reservoir is at the back, you simply flip the top lid back and pour from the front over top the coffee basket. The sides around the basket are even sloped to the reservoir so that any little drips or spills will flow to where they belong.
6. Brewing speed is a very respectable 9 minutes on regular strength and 12 minutes on bold. This is about 1-2 minutes faster than most machines I've tried.
7. Overall appearance is even better than in the picture and easily one of the best looking coffee machines out there.
8. Cone basket. I've always preferred cone filter baskets over the flat bottom type. They use about 25% less coffee to achieve the same strength.
9. Glass carafe pours without dripping as long as you don't try to pour too fast.
I struggled to think of anything that I would consider a con with this unit. Maybe a slightly faster brewing time would be an improvement as I've heard that 7 minutes is optimum. Not sure how this would affect the coffee strength though. Price is a little on the expensive side but I'm happy to pay a little more for the quality build and all stainless design.
It’s beautiful and makes great coffee.
My coffee never tasted so good.
The problem I have and for this reason I removed some “stars” from my review is......
IT’S DRIPPING....ALL the time.
I tried everything ( leave it on for some extra minutes, etc) but with no success.
I have a napkin with me all the time when I remove the carafe from the machine.
It seems like you can’t have everything in life.
Yes, the Braun coffee maker makes good coffee. However, within one month of purchase, the machine was making very loud noises (sputtering and other noises) when making coffee. The noise was so loud we could hear coffee being made upstairs in our bedroom. When I contacted Braun, they asked me to video chat so they could hear the noise I was describing. To their credit, they agreed the machine was way too noisy. They chalked it up to a machine defect and sent me another one.
The 2nd coffee machine Braun sent us worked much better. It was quiet and the coffee was tasty. However, within three months it stopped working showing a "E1" error code on the display. Today I searched the error code on the net hoping I could fix the machine myself. No such chance. Braun says I need to call Monday-Friday during business hours to arrange to have the machine fixed or replaced. I am beyond frustrated with the amount of effort needed to get my morning cup of coffee from this company.
Sometimes my parents were right, and in this case they were right.
"More expensive isn't always better."
I'm off to Walmart to get a cheap drip coffee maker. It won't be fancy but it will last the distance.
I wish this Coffee maker has better water level indicator to read easier although I use to it after a while.
There is no water level on the out side of the machine and you should check the water level with some green step inside machine only when you open the door for pouring the water.
